**Job Summary:** We are seeking an experienced Assistant Bookkeeper to join our accounting team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in bookkeeping, accounting principles, and financial concepts. The role requires a detail-oriented and organized individual who is comfortable with financial software and can work accurately within a fast-paced environment. The Assistant Bookkeeper will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, performing account analysis, and ensuring compliance with governmental accounting standards. **Responsibilities:** - Assist the accounting team in maintaining financial records, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger entries - Prepare and review financial statements, including balance sheets and income statements, for internal and external reporting - Perform account analysis, including reconciliation and journal entries, to ensure accuracy and compliance with GAAP and governmental accounting standards - Use financial software, such as Xero, to manage accounts and perform accounting tasks - Maintain a thorough understanding of accounting principles, including double entry bookkeeping, and apply this knowledge to daily accounting tasks - Prepare and submit financial reports, including monthly financial statements, to management and stakeholders - Assist in preparing annual financial statements and tax returns, including ensuring compliance with public accounting standards - Provide technical accounting support to other departments and management - Assist in performing audits and financial reviews to ensure the integrity of financial records - Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive financial information with discretion **Experience:** - 2 years of experience in accounting or bookkeeping - Proficiency in accounting software, including Xero - Experience with governmental accounting and GAAP - Strong understanding of financial concepts, including account analysis and double entry bookkeeping - Experience with public accounting or governmental accounting - Technical accounting skills, including knowledge of accounting principles and financial regulations - Ability to work accurately and efficiently in a fast-paced environment - Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills - Strong communication and organizational skills - High school diploma or equivalent required; associate's degree or bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field preferred
