Position Summary-
The Purchasing Manager, an exempt position, oversees the organization's procurement process. This role includes developing and implementing procurement strategies, sourcing and evaluating suppliers, negotiating contracts, and ensuring timely and cost-effective acquisition of materials and services. The Purchasing Manager collaborates with various departments and group companies to understand their needs, manage inventory levels, and ensure compliance with company policies and regulations.
Main Responsibilities-
· Negotiate pricing, purchase terms, product availability, and lead times with suppliers.
· Oversee the entire procurement process, including purchase orders, cost requirements, and supplier payments.
· Procure products from group companies, including imports from Japan.
· Assure inventory levels of finished goods, raw materials, ingredients, packaging materials, and non-inventory items are aligned with daily production requirements.
· Manage and support logistical requirements for EXW purchased materials, both domestic and international.
· Work closely with other departments and group companies to understand their procurement needs and provide support.
· Ensure all supplier-provided documentation is current.
· Manage outsourced production activities.
· Prepare and present reports on procurement activities, cost savings, standard cost/landed cost calculations, transfer prices to group companies, and supplier performance.
· Create new item setups for raw materials, ingredients, and packaging materials.
· Ensure the high quality of purchased goods and materials.
· Coordinate with internal stakeholders and suppliers regarding design changes and new packaging materials.
· Manage the disposal and removal of unusable inventory of materials and goods.
Required Skills/Abilities:
· Experience and knowledge in managing purchasing in a food manufacturing or distribution environment.
· Experience and knowledge of importing goods.
· Ability to lead the assigned department.
· Knowledge of food-related government and religious regulations to ensure purchased materials, goods, and supplies are safe and compliant with applicable laws and regulations.
· Understanding of goods and supplies related to food manufacturing and distribution operations.
· Ability to make complex mathematical computations to determine budget, inventory turns, available stock inventory, stock safety, and other standard calculations related to this job.
· Excellent communication skills to work in a multicultural work environment.
· Strong negotiation skills and the ability to analyze and evaluate quotations for the most effective purchasing and distribution of goods.
· Ability to perform multi-task operations.
· Accurate record-keeping ability.
· Demonstrated creative problem-solving abilities.
· Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
· Must be able to travel several times a year to visit subsidiary companies, conferences & trade shows
· Must live in Portland-Salem, OR area and with expectation to be in corporate office regularly
Education & Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in business or related field
Minimum 5 years’ purchasing experience required (less than may be considered depending on experience)
Minimum 2 years’ management experience required (less than may be considered depending on experience)
Bilingual English – Japanese required

Pay: $80,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year
