The Shipping & Receiving Clerk is responsible for preparing outgoing shipments and receiving incoming shipments. This position is more than just loading and unloading trucks with freight! The duties include organizing inventory for easy retrieval as new orders come in, reviewing incoming and outgoing shipment schedules to maintain productive operations and documenting damage to inventory. This position also includes entering receipt of goods into our Sage 100 Inventory Program to maintain inventory accuracy.
Duties & Responsibilities
The Shipping Clerk will be able to process incoming and outgoing deliveries by:
- Obtain and process pick tickets, sales and purchase orders.
- Maintain inventory accuracy by counting items received on incoming and outgoing shipments and noting same on Bill of Lading.
- Packaging of outbound shipments by palletizing, boxing, banding, or shrink-wrapping material to prevent damage during shipment.
- Carrier selection and costing to save the company and customer shipping costs.
- Keep files of goods shipped and received by preparing regular shipping and receiving reports for managers
- Handle issues arising in shipping or inventory handling such as damage, freight cost or delays.
- Utilize forklifts and pallet jacks to move inventory appropriately
Skills & Qualifications
Shipping Clerk is responsible for sorting, organizing, and transferring goods; they also must have the following skills and qualifications:
- Five years prior experience in Shipping & Receiving using Bills of Lading, Pick Tickets, Sales Orders and Purchase Orders in a manufacturing environment.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Excellent organization and administrative skills
- Integrity and leadership
- Exemplary customer care with both internal and external customers.
- Good analytical and problem solving skills
- Strong computer skills, in both Excel and Sage 100
- Current Forklift Certification
- Detail-oriented and multitasking skills
