Summary
The Monitor Technician is responsible for the continuous surveillance of cardiac monitors. The technician recognizes cardiac dysrhythmias, documents on the strips and scans them into the electronic medical record, notifies the appropriate RN of rhythm changes. Communicates with all members of the Health Care Team to ensure safe, effective patient monitoring. Position Reports To: Clinical ManagerEssential Functions

- Demonstrates competency in proper operation of the monitors; ensures monitor is properly functioning.
- Runs ECG monitor strips at required intervals and as needed for changes.
- Documents waveform measurements, and rhythm analysis on strips. Prepares strip for scanning into EMR and performs scanning in a timely basis.
- Notifies RN of any changes to rhythm per established protocol.
- Maintains log of patient monitoring.
- Admits patients into the system and discharges in consultation with RN. Communicate assignment of telemetry box to RN.
- Assists MD with location of stored data if requested.
- Ensures completion of workorder for any broken monitor equipment.
- Initiates Rapid Response Team or Code Blue call if requested.
- Consults with PCU Charge RN for any assistance, back up, relief or questions.
- Identifies patient by name and FIN to floor staff when initiating monitoring. to ensure correct identification.
- Demonstrates a thorough knowledge of safety policies and procedures; knows proper body mechanics.
- Demonstrates knowledge of infection control and isolation procedures; strictly adheres to policies and procedures as outlined in the departmental manuals; washes hands before and after any patient contact.
- Participates in hospital emergency and disaster drills; knows personal role in the event of a fire and other emergency codes while on duty.
- Reports any observed change in patient condition or behavior promptly to the nurse.
- Completes all required documentation by the end of the shift.
- Demonstrates the ability to adapt to changes in the workload.
- Completes work left from previous shifts and reports all incomplete assignments to ensure continuity of care.
- Assumes responsibility for reading all posted minutes and memos.
- Performs all duties in an independent manner with little or no need for direct supervision.
- Willingly participates in doing other duties, as certified to do so, although not directly assigned.
- Reports to director/clinical manager any suggestions or recommendations for changes within the departmental policies and procedures.
- Maintains well-stocked supplies and reports non-functioning equipment.
- Demonstrates an ongoing awareness of and participation in quality improvement process.
- Incorporates results obtained through the quality improvement process into practice to enhance performance.
- Participates in evaluation of self with Director/clinical Manager annually.
- Demonstrates a good judgment to present self in a professional manner. Actively participates in hospital functions.
- Assumes responsibility for own professional development and personal growth through continuing education.
Qualifications
Required:- Has a High School Diploma or GED.
- Active Washington State Nurse Assistant Certification.
- CNAs have a Health Care Assistant Level A certification where applicable (obtained during CNA orientation).
- Must possess basic computer skills related to Windows navigation, mouse usage, keyboarding, email communication and password management.
- Completion of a cardiac dysrhythmia recognition and interpretation course.
