SUMMARY
Congressional School is seeking a dynamic, qualified and energetic Director of Athletics and Physical Education for the 2025-26 Academic Year. The Director of Athletics and Physical Education (PE) is charged with the comprehensive responsibility of physical education and inter-scholastic sports for all students at Congressional School. In collaboration with the Division Directors, the Director of Athletics and PE will provide strategic vision on staffing, programming, and scheduling ensuring mission fit. The Director effectively interacts and relates to children in a developmentally appropriate manner, is sensitive to individual children's differences and needs, and is willing to adjust the program and curriculum to meet those individual needs.
The Athletic Director is responsible for the day-to-day and big picture operation of the Athletic Department including supervising, managing and evaluating the PE Teachers and Coaches. The Athletic Director is collaborative and possesses strong interpersonal skills and a firm pedagogical framework.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Leads, develops, organizes, supervises and evaluates the entire physical education and athletics program
- Works closely with the Division Directors to ensure that student needs are met and their experiences are in line with the School's athletic philosophy
- Ensures the health and safety of all students in the athletics program
- Ensures the proper maintenance and security of all athletic equipment and athletic facilities, fields, working in coordination with the Facilities Manager
- Ensures that all PE teachers and coaches are performing their duties at the highest level of professionalism and that they are aligned with the school's athletic philosophy
- Teaches PE classes
- Schedules all games and meet and coordinates athletic transportation
- Manages all communications, internal and external, about the Athletics program
- Manages a budget each year to fund the physical education and athletic programs
- Oversees the distribution, collection, cleaning, repair, and storage of all athletic uniforms and equipment
- Ensures compliance with all relevant league, county and states regulations
- Serves as a member of the School's Leadership Team
- Attends School events
- Other duties as assigned
REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor's Degree in Physical Education or a related field; Master's degree preferred
- Minimum of five years' teaching experience.
- Minimum of three or more years' supervisory experience
- Ability to lead and inspire dedicated faculty and children of all ages
- Ability to multi-task projects and duties in a collaborative working environment
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Consummate professionalism in internal and external interactions.
