The Connecticut Center for Advanced Technology, Inc. (CCAT) is a non-stock, tax-exempt 501(c)3 corporation incorporated in May 2004. CCAT is an applied technology demonstration and training center that validates, demonstrates and assists with the adoption of leading-edge technologies to enable a resilient supply chain and industrial base while providing vital training and upskilling.
CCAT partners with State and Federal governmental funding agencies such as the DOD, DOE, NASA, SBA and USDOC on technology development and training utilizing government programs and commercial contracts to address military and civilian industrial manufacturing needs. The current technology focus of the Advanced Technology Centers is on multi-material additive manufacturing technologies, composites, advanced design, automation, metrology, industrial automation, and Industry 4.0 technologies.
Job Description: As a key member of our team, the Advanced Manufacturing Trainer will drive the adoption of automated workflows and practices in the manufacturing supply base through classroom, virtual, and hands-on training. Responsibilities include delivering training to manufacturing companies and their personnel, developing curriculum with the Chief Talent & Training Officer (CTRO), and collaborating with software/hardware providers and in-house experts. Based in East Hartford, Connecticut, you will leverage your technical expertise to support the development and delivery of high-quality training, shaping the future manufacturing workforce.
Responsibilities for CCAT Training Staff Members:
- Provide dynamic teaching, training, and assessments in advanced manufacturing techniques.
- Conduct formal classroom and virtual training on advanced manufacturing technologies, including development, programming, operation, and maintenance of automated production systems.
- Prepare, review, and customize curriculum lesson plans and instructor guides.
- Support course reviews, curriculum updates, training gap analysis, and provide feedback for improvements.
- Establish and review course content and objectives.
- Develop criteria for evaluating the effectiveness of training activities.
- Partner with CCAT’s technical experts and Chief Talent & Training Officer (CTRO) to improve training offerings and strategy.
- Ensure compliance with environmental and safety policies in training labs and classrooms.
- Develop equipment safety procedures based on engineering expertise and industry standards.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Exercise and Curriculum Development: Lead the development of automated systems and workflows in the TnTx Facility and Advanced Technology Center (ATC) to create high-quality examples, demonstrations, and hands-on activities. Develop associated curriculum and work instructions.
- Digital Manufacturing: Train on applications of model-based definition (MBD) in design, manufacturing, and inspection.
- Automated Workflows and Systems: Provide training on automation and robotics for metal material removal, polymer and metal additive processes, plastics forming processes, and electro-mechanical assembly processes.
- Automated Testing: Conduct training on automated testing and inspection processes for raw materials, manufacturing processes, WIP, and finished products.
- System Integration: Integrate robotics and automation into existing production systems.
- Certification: Certify automated manufacturing systems and robotics.
Required Experience:
· Education:
o Bachelor’s degree in a technical field related to engineering or manufacturing. Total experience can be considered for degree substitution.
· Experience:
o Minimum 4 years’ experience in highly automated manufacturing environments or shop operations as a designer, technician, operator, programmer, supervisor, or engineer.
o Minimum 4 years’ experience using robotics programming software, robotics hardware (including ABB and UR robotic arms), PLC programming software, and other automation hardware (preference for knowledge of Siemens or Rockwell PLCs, controllers, and platforms). Robotics Certifications at the technician, programming, and integrator level a plus.
o Minimum 2 years’ experience in teaching or training in a technical or manufacturing environment.
o Minimum 2 years’ experience developing curriculum and content for courses.
o Experience troubleshooting quality issues in manufacturing, performing root cause and corrective actions.
· Skills:
o Familiarity with robotics and automated manufacturing systems for complex naval or aerospace parts.
o Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
o Strong technical writing, communication, interpersonal, and time management skills.
o Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary, collaborative team environment focused on innovation.
o Strong verbal and written communication skills.
· Requirements:
o Must fulfill ITAR citizenship requirements.
Physical Demands & Work Environment: This role requires onsite presence, Monday through Friday, with occasional early mornings or evenings as needed. Travel to various locations, including office environments and manufacturing facilities, will be necessary. This role primarily involves the use of standard office equipment. Physical demands include prolonged periods of sitting, standing, using a computer, and occasional lifting of up to 20 pounds. This role requires the ability to read computer screens and printed material.
