Description
The Volunteer Services Manager will provide support across the organization with a particular focus on volunteer and community engagement. Their primary responsibility will be to assist with program planning that supports the organization’s mission and operational needs through the recruitment, education, recognition, and retention of volunteers.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Plans and executes volunteer recruitment, education, recognition, and retention programs.
- Ensures a rewarding volunteer experience, including providing an orientation to Connecticut Foodshare, its mission, and the issue of hunger.
- Supports volunteer groups and trains individuals on the use of volunteer management software.
- Assists with tracking volunteer attendance and ensures Connecticut Foodshare volunteer recognition program is well-executed.
- Corresponds with volunteers and other community partners.
- Conducts outreach efforts in the interest of volunteer recruitment and retention.
- Manages relationships with youth and school volunteer/donor groups.
- Assists with developing a volunteer outreach plan for evening and weekend operations.
- Participates in on and off-site volunteer events to monitor processes, assign tasks, and collect feedback.
- Conducts volunteer screenings, orientations, and photographing volunteer events.
- Manages organization-wide calendar of volunteer events.
- Attends Connecticut Foodshare events, particularly related to volunteer and community engagement.
- Assists with the Volunteer Advisory Council
- Assists with research and pursue new volunteer leads including individuals and groups (youth, community, and corporate).
- Ensures accuracy for required volunteer information into enterprise data systems in a timely manner and ensures the integrity of all volunteer data.
- Manages, updates, and troubleshoots Volunteer Hub scheduling software
- Implements a comprehensive volunteer appreciation program, including regular and ongoing recognition of volunteers.
- Provides volunteer support for special events, including organizing and managing the “volunteer room” function for major events.
- Ensure proper procedures and record-keeping requirements are followed with regard to court-mandated volunteers.
- Assists with managing volunteer annual events.
- Supports volunteer needs across the organization.
- Maintains information on volunteer company’s policies regarding volunteerism.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Minimum Education/Experience:
- Associate degree in related field with 2 years of related experience in similar or related function in comparable environment OR 4 years of related experience in similar or related function in comparable environment.
- Experience with Microsoft Office suite
Preferred Education/Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in related field with 1 years of progressively responsible experience in similar or related function OR 5 years of progressively responsible experience in similar or related function.
- Experience in an office support environment and customer service.
Other Requirements
Physical Demands/Abilities: Sit or stand as needed to complete assigned work. May require occasional walking, primarily on a level surface at times throughout the day. Reaching above shoulder heights, below the waist or lifting up to 5 lbs. as required to file documents or store materials throughout the workday. Work schedule may involve evening and weekend hours to support Foodshare events.
Mental Demands/Abilities: Read, analyze, and interpret written information including general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Author reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public. Perform basic to moderate math to calculate discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Work may involve applying concepts of basic algebra and geometry. Manage multiple priorities and deadlines which may involve stressful work demands. Solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Make decisions involving sorting, task sequencing, work planning and prioritization. Work tasks may involve sustained concentration.

Work Environment: Daily work involves a typical office environment involving ambient room temperatures, lighting and noise levels associated with traditional office equipment (telephone, fax, copier/scanner).
