Overview

The Youth Program team at CIRI is seeking a passionate intern to support school-aged refugee and immigrant youth in their educational journey. This unpaid internship offers hands-on experience in youth development, education advocacy, and program coordination, making a direct impact on students and their families.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist students in succeeding academically by providing guidance on schoolwork, tutoring, and study skills.
  • Help families explore alternative school options, such as charter schools, magnet programs, or specialized learning environments.
  • Support students in the college admissions process, including application completion, financial aid guidance, and scholarship searches.
  • Assist families in identifying and applying for summer camps and enrichment programs.
  • Coordinate and support extracurricular programming, including after-school activities, workshops, and leadership programs.
  • Provide logistical and administrative support for the Summer Academy, ensuring a smooth and engaging experience for participants.
  • Track student progress and maintain accurate case notes.
  • Assist with outreach to schools, community partners, and volunteers.

Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Education, Social Work, Youth Development, or a related field.
  • Passion for working with diverse populations, particularly refugee and immigrant youth.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) preferred.
  • Fluency in a second language (e.g., Spanish, Arabic, Dari, Pashto, French) is a plus.

Internship Details

  • Commitment: Minimum of 10-15 hours per week for at least 10 weeks (flexible based on academic requirements).
  • Location: Bridgeport or New Haven
  • Supervision: Interns will receive direct mentorship and training from the Youth Program Coordinator and staff.
