Job Summary: The AVP, Project Management is focused on managing projects related to the organization’s infrastructure, applications, and end-user training. This individual also manages junior staff and mentors team members on project management. In addition, the AVP, Project Management presents best practices, project templates, manages vendors, and collaborates with teams across the organization to improve business processes and develop corporate standards for project management.
Principal Responsibilities
- Manage various infrastructure, application, and training projects
- Develop dashboards at a detailed or summary level for easy update on project(s)
- Creating long- and short-term plans for plans, including setting targets for milestones and adhering to deadlines
- Actively works closely with various managers to confirm that the project has adequate staffing or other resources for successful outcomes
- Liaison to leadership teams within all primary business units
- Track project progress and communicate across the organization effectively
- Coordinate and develop training programs on technology for companywide applications
- Develop training materials and conduct training sessions as needed
- Create templates for standardization across the enterprise
- Support the LMS needs of the organization for internal and external clients
- Administer the project management application(s)
- Delegating tasks on the project to employees while balancing competing priorities
- Making effective decisions when presented with multiple options for how to progress with the project
- Developing bandwidth maps for key personnel to manage workloads and set project deliverable projections
- Performing quality control on the project throughout development to maintain the standards expected
- Adjusting schedules and targets on the project as needs or financing for the project change
Required Experience
- BA/BS in Communications, Business Administration, or a related field of study
- 7 years of personnel and project management experience in the insurance industry or related field
- Project Management certification and/or evidence of extensive domain experience is a must
- Strong knowledge of project management methodologies especially Agile
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to handle difficult situations
- Ability to present and communicate effectively to management and key stakeholders.
- Solid verbal and written communication skills.
- Provide constant updates on projects and work closely with the CIO.
- Other key behavioral skills: Leadership, Interpersonal, Decisiveness, Problem-solving, ability to delegate effectively, Time management, and ability to influence cross functional teams to complete projects.
- Knowledge of project management software like MS Project, MS Planner, Atlassian suite, Microsoft Office Suite, etc.
- Comfortable in learning new technology areas with a go getter mind set
- Quickly gain the functional knowledge of the systems being project managed
- Broad knowledge of various commercial software and able to grasp new technologies quickly.
