Job Summary
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Director to lead our Geospatial IT team. Reporting to the Manager of Data Management and Architecture, this role will be responsible for leading the management, design and development of geospatial tools, workflows and solutions, working directly with business leaders to solve issues leveraging the GIS platform. Responsibilities include leading strategic aspects of the geospatial data strategy, implementing and leading a cross-capability governance and management process. In addition, the role is responsible for operational aspects of geospatial platform, especially regarding product development, licensing and introducing new capabilities.
The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of geospatial technologies, data analysis, and project management. This role requires a strategic thinker with the ability to drive innovation and deliver impactful solutions.
Position Overview
Your responsibilities may include:
Leadership and Management: Lead and mentor a team of geospatial professionals, fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment
Strategic Planning: Develop and implement geospatial strategies that align with the organization's goals and objectives
Project Oversight: Oversee the planning, execution, and delivery of geospatial projects, ensuring they are completed on time and within budget
Cultivate relationships and collaborate with cross-functional GIS teams in Functions and BUs to ensure alignment, understand needs and deliver long term solutions
Evaluating new capabilities and technologies to drive business results and innovation to propel the organization’s Data and Digital strategies
Accountable for the operationalization of new Geospatial capabilities and tools and ensuring seamless integration with existing systems and processes
Creating an enterprise strategy for the delivery of our geospatial tools and data that ties together our business processes and workflows to strengthen our capabilities, accelerates delivery, and promotes innovation
Participate in key technical and design discussions with technical leads in the team as a hands-on manager
Support SAFE Agile quarterly planning for the team as Product Owner
Ensure consistency of geospatial data systems, tools, and architectural best practices across the organization, driving adoption across our teams and systems
Proactively identify opportunities for automation and continuous improvements
Stay current with the latest trends, technologies, and best practices in geospatial data management, governance, and architecture
Manage relationships with external vendors and service providers. Influences strategies and decisions with senior IT management in other parts of the company. Negotiate key contracts or technical terms with vendors or external parties
Manage and prioritize development/customization of Geospatial solutions
Identify areas where geospatial usage can enhance current processes to improve efficiency
Ensure availability of applications, designing road map for GIS upgrades and feature enhancements
Maintain the integrity, availability, resilience, and capacity and license management of the GIS environment
Basic/Required:
Legally authorized to work in the United States
Bachelor's degree or higher in Geographical Information Systems, Business Admin/Mgmt, Computer Science, Engineering, Geology, Geoscience, Information Technology, Management Information Systems, related field, or foreign equivalent
10 or more years of designing and implementing Geospatial solutions
10 or more years of experience in Information Technology
5 or more years of experience in the development of and/or leading an enterprise-wide data strategy with focus of geospatial data
5 or more years of experience with the Esri ArcGIS platform
5 or more years of experience in a leadership role
5 or more years of experience in the oil and gas industry
Preferred:
1 or more years of experience leading a team of geospatial professionals
1 or more years of experience with structured and unstructured geospatial data, with strong technical experience in large system management
Ability to take ownership, engage, lead change, achieve results, adapt, problem-solve, manage risk, and drive tasks to completion
1 or more years of experience running geospatial projects through the development, test, and production implementation/support
Advanced level of knowledge of geographic information systems and spatial data
Advanced level of knowledge of GIS principles to provide GIS analysis and dashboards to multiple organizations such as cause and effect, regional studies, business optimization.
Intermediate level of knowledge of UAS/drones, image capture/imagery, and payloads
Intermediate level of knowledge of data, integration, conversion, and translations
Intermediate level of knowledge of application deployment in UNIX and Windows Environment
Intermediate level of knowledge of SQL (SQL Server and Oracle) and database principles
Ability to prioritize requests and multi-task, learning and applying new applications and techniques
Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills
Strong communication skills and the ability to liaise with the following other support groups
