Job Summary
ConocoPhillips Alaska is seeking an entry-level candidate for the North Slope intern program. The objective of this program is to provide a recent high school graduate from a rural community with exposure to the oil and gas industry and life in an Alaska North Slope camp. The preferred candidate may plan to attend college or vocational school to obtain an associate degree, bachelor’s degree, or certification in the field of process technology. The preferred candidate would demonstrate an interest in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Math) disciplines.
The North Slope student intern program prepares individuals for continued success in post-secondary coursework and the opportunity for exploration, exposure, and job shadowing in all aspects of oil & gas field operations such as (Maintenance, Health, Safety & Environmental, etc.). The successful candidate is expected to work 3-5 rotational schedules (14 days on/14 days off) at Alpine. Each week the successful candidate will be scheduled in a different part of the Alpine field to ensure broad exposure to the field life. While on duty, the successful candidate will maintain a notebook of daily accomplishments and new tasks learned.
Job Description
Examples of work performed while on rotation may include:
Rotation 1
- Week one – operations & camp life w/ initial onboarding for basic mustering.
- Week two – facility operations
- Week one – drill site operations
- Week two – HSE & Maintenance (mechanical, electrical, instrumentation). Alpine Process Development, lead to coordinate w/ Maintenance Leads on what is available that week.
- Week one – Fire Team, NMS activities, Water Plant, potentially civil work scopes like roads & pads, CDL, crane ops. Alpine Process Development, lead to coordinate w/ Maintenance Leads on what is available that week.
- Week two – Operations and close out.
- Learning about health, safety, and environmental hazards
- Practicing emergency preparedness and learning how to recognize
- Responding to and report incidents and near-misses
- Attend daily tailgate meetings
- Make rounds and take readings
- Monitoring normal operation conditions
- Troubleshooting as problems arise
- Witnessing the work permit system
- Assisting in energy isolation
ConocoPhillips is Alaska’s largest crude oil producer and largest owner of exploration leases, with approximately 1.2 million net undeveloped acres at year-end 2022. The company produced an average of 200 thousand barrels of oil equivalent per day in 2022. ConocoPhillips has major ownership interests in two of North America’s largest oil fields, both located on Alaska’s North Slope—Kuparuk, which the company operates, and Prudhoe Bay. Additionally, ConocoPhillips operates the Alpine Field located on the Western North Slope. The company has an ownership interest in the Trans-Alaska Pipeline System (TAPS) and owns/operates the Polar Tankers fleet.
Basic/Required:
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer
- High School Graduate from a rural community within Alaska
- Intent to pursue college or vocational education pertinent to an Oil and Gas STEM field.
- Availability to work a minimum of three, 2-week North Slope rotations at Alpine
- Demonstrates taking ownership of actions and follows through on commitments by courageously dealing with important problems, holding others accountable and standing up for what is right.
