Purpose :
Stewards Individual Placements (Stewards), a program of Conservation Legacy, provides individuals with AmeriCorps service and career opportunities to strengthen communities and preserve our natural resources. Participants serve with federal agencies, tribal governments, and nonprofits to provide institutional capacity, develop community relationships, and support ecosystem health. Stewards partners with the Bureau of Indian Affairs to facilitate the WaterCorps Program to provide opportunities to Tribal Members seeking to gain experience in the water resources field. This WaterCorps position will be hosted at the Billy Frank Jr. Nisqually National Wildlife Refuge.
The Biological Technician is an AmeriCorps position that will help administer the mission of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service by working with others to conserve, protect, and enhance fish, wildlife, and plants and their habitats for the continuing benefit of the American people. This position is incorporated into the National Wildlife Refuge System, more specifically the Nisqually National Wildlife Refuge Complex with guiding principles of a "wildlife first" approach to resource management.
The purpose of the member's service is to primarily benefit the federally threatened Oregon spotted frog by surveying for and removing invasive American bullfrogs from the Black River Unit of the refuge. The member also supports the refuge's biological program in a wide variety of ways such as amphibian surveys and freshwater management data gathering. The member will also be partnered with the Nisqually and Squaxin Island Indian tribes as well as U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Fisheries and Aquatic Conservation to assist those programs with fish hatchery work, European green crab trapping and other water related projects.

As an AmeriCorps member, performance will be evaluated on whether the member has completed the required number of hours, the member has satisfactorily completed assignments, and if the member has met other performance criteria that were clearly communicated at the beginning of the term of service.
Reporting requirements include, but are not limited to, bi-weekly timesheets and accomplishment tracking.
Salary : $100 - $600
