Job Overview
The Botanical Conservation Specialist will work collaboratively with a diverse crew on vegetation management activities, primarily invasive plant control in an outdoor field setting using herbicides, hand tools, and possibly chainsaws.
Main Responsibilities
- Contribute to the team's efforts in controlling invasive plants in both frontcountry and backcountry settings.
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of treatment and control work.
- Carry out biosecurity inspections and monitor field sites.
- Participate in surveys to detect trees infected by Ceratocystis (Rapid Ohia Death).
- Support the restoration team with propagating native seedlings and planting and collecting seeds.
Key Requirements
- Holds a High School Diploma.
- Possesses a valid driver's license.
- Able to hike on remote and rugged terrain both on trail and off-trail with a fifty (50) pound backpack and camp up to five (5) nights in remote backcountry.
- Willing to use chemical pesticides and herbicides while following all safety requirements.
- Effective communication skills with supervisor and co-workers orally and in writing.
- Must pass criminal background checks which requires fingerprinting by a DOI approved location and background checks for AmeriCorps through an approved locations prior to start date.
- Age 18 or older.
- US Citizen.
