Job Overview
We are seeking a skilled Botanical Specialist to join our conservation team. As a key member of our vegetation management crew, you will play a crucial role in invasive plant control and ecosystem restoration.
Key Responsibilities
- Work collaboratively with a diverse team to survey, identify, and remove invasive plant species in both frontcountry and backcountry settings.
- Conduct thorough records of treatment and control work, ensuring accurate and detailed documentation.
- Assist the biosecurity team in conducting inspections and monitoring field sites, promoting effective prevention and mitigation strategies.
- Participate in surveys to detect trees infected by Ceratocystis (Rapid Ohia Death).
- Support the restoration team in propagating native seedlings and planting and collecting seeds, contributing to habitat restoration and biodiversity enhancement.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Possess a valid driver's license.
- Demonstrate ability to hike on remote and rugged terrain, carrying a 50-pound backpack and camping up to five nights in backcountry settings.
- Willingness to use chemical pesticides and herbicides while adhering to safety protocols.
- Excellent communication skills, enabling effective collaboration with supervisors and coworkers.
- Pass a criminal background check, including fingerprinting and AmeriCorps background checks.
- Age 18 or older and a US Citizen.
