The Instruments and Controls/ Electrician (IC&E) technician is responsible for the Instruments and Controls and Electrical maintenance of the Oswego Harbor Power Generating Station Units and auxiliary systems including both conventional steam units and large boilers. This position will require the successful candidate to troubleshoot Instrument and Control problems as well as Electrical Problems. This position will also require the candidate to perform preventive, predictive and repair maintenance. Normal work schedule is an 8-hour Monday–Friday shift. Overtime work will be required as needed by plant conditions and business needs.
Oswego Harbor Power is a 1,617 MW steam generating facility located in Oswego, New York. Primarily consisting of (2) Foster Wheeler Boilers; (2) Westinghouse Steam Turbines; and (2) Westinghouse Generators, including all associated gas and electrical interconnection systems and facilities and other associated equipment, systems, and structures; oil storage, water treatment, cooling, supply, and discharge systems; plant auxiliary and support facilities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Ensure the completion of plant safety program activities and that safety policies and procedures are adhered to.
- Ensure compliance with all environmental permits and regulations on a continuous basis and respond appropriately to emergency situations.
- Perform service and calibration of all primary instrument field elements.
- Analyze and troubleshoot instrument and electrical equipment issues and ensure the timely resolution of problems and interpret computerized data collection systems.
- Be proactive with problem recognition, using independent judgment to provide input on ways to resolve problems.
- Troubleshoot, maintain, and repair all aspects of a control system including digital, analog, DCS, Burner management, PLC’s (function block and ladder) and plant air systems.
- Troubleshoot Electrical Issues and make necessary repairs.
- Perform Electrical Test activities.
- Perform and support job planning phases.
- Update plant prints and schematics.
- Upgrading and retrofitting plant instrumentation and electrical systems.
- Service all valves and damper drives including pneumatic and hydraulic actuators.
- Maintain, calibrate, and repair all instrument final elements including actuators, positioners, gauges valves, etc.
- Update test files, prints, and calibration reports.
- Perform additional duties and responsibilities as needed.
- Respond in a timely basis after normal working hours to resolve station issues.
- Participate in the operating cross training program.
- Battery and inverter system maintenance
- Medium/High voltage system maintenance: Transformers, breakers, and switchgear
- Motor operated valve (MOV) setup and maintenance
- Motor overhauls to include bearing replacement.
