The Lead Operations and Maintenance Technician oversees all aspects of plant operations at St. Charles Energy Center, ensuring safe, reliable performance while maintaining compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory standards. Additionally, this role includes guiding and developing on-shift personnel to support operational excellence and professional development.
The St Charles Energy Center is 2x1 gas fired combined cycle facility utilizing GE 7FA.05 Gas Turbines and D11 Steam Turbine. The facility uses beneficial reuse, or reclaim, water in a counterflow cooling tower for condenser cooling. The 745 MW facility is interconnected to PEPCO and sells power into the PJM market.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Provides coverage and shares on call duty with the Operations Manager.
- Performs inspections, water analysis and troubleshooting, to optimize plant performance.
- Develop and train shift personnel.
- Plan and coordinates plant maintenance as required to maximize plant availability and optimize cost effectiveness.
- Prepare accurate plant documentation, to assure that proper historical records and reporting of plant operation and maintenance are done.
- Participates in planned day operator shift coverage at the discretion of the Operations Manager.
- Formulate and execute projects assigned by the Operations Manager.
- Promotes and work with others in a team environment.
- Coordinates plant production in accordance with contracts and owners’ representatives.
- Communicates verbally and in writing to customers, suppliers, and operators to ensure optimum resource utilization.
- Administers shift schedules, housekeeping assignments, and operations routines.
- Assists with operations/maintenance training and qualification programs.
- Must make expeditious appropriate decision to non-routine plant operating situations.
- Other duties as assigned.
