Consolidated Business Services (CBS) has a full-time opening for a Splicer working in the Oregon Willamette Valley service(s) area.

The Splicer is responsible for the splicing, installation, and repair of plant facilities for multiple CBS partner companies.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Responsible for splicing, installing, and repairing plant facilities, including copper buried, aerial, and fiber optics. Includes CO, cross-connect boxes, pedestals, and building terminals.
• Troubleshoots Outside Plant including Broadband, POTS, and various media types up to demarc.
• Understand and demonstrate basic voice and data uses and applications.
• Works cohesively with Engineering, Central Office, Service Center, and all of Operations department(s) on project(s) and daily work tasks including response to customer outages during and off work hours.
• Identifies, counts, and prepares groups of cable pairs and or fiber optic count for splicing and termination.
• Identifies and repairs bad cable sections, customer dig-ups, pair recovery, and air pressurization.
• Splices main feeder cables and fiber optics at the MDF.
• Assists in the maintenance of the cable air pressurization system. Maintains all splice closures and termination points in a moisture free, airtight environment.
• Interprets and follows directions from engineering staking sheets or field prints, designs, and schematics.
• Tests and repair plant facilities from the MDF to the customer location.
• Qualifies lines for special services such as Broadband, Conditioned Leased facilities, digital and analog data lines.
• Support company culture initiatives.
• Perform other job duties and responsibilities as required to fulfill job functions or as assigned.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

• The ideal candidate will have 2-5 years’ prior telecommunications experience in outside plant
• High school diploma or equivalent work experience.
• Must exhibit a high mechanical aptitude.
• Able to lift/carry 50 lbs regularly and up to 100 lbs as needed with or without assistance.
• Basic knowledge of MS Office and basic computer skills to look up maps.
• Knowledge of basic telephone, electrical, and fiber optic theory.
• Proficient in the use of various media testing equipment 965, OTDR & VOM, etc.
• Previous experience in grounding and bonding of all pedestals, cables, and fiber optic cable.
• Must have proven experience understanding design, count and telecommunications wiring color-code competency.
• Demonstrated ability to work from oral and written instructions and make decisions under limited supervision.
• Certificate of Fiber Optic training a plus but not required.
