Lead Estimator Role
The Lead Estimator provides overall leadership and direction needed to perform quality estimates through:
- Demonstrating a self-starter attitude to help achieve overall Company goals.
- Recognizing deficiencies and seeking help when appropriate, while working under pressure.
- Providing technical advice and supporting project leaders and superintendents.
- Preparing bids, analyzing plans, specifications, construction cost data, and other contract documents.
- Identifying project trades, vendors, and subcontractors using the CCSI subcontractor database.
- Preparing detailed work breakdown structures per trade and negotiating with subcontractors.
- Overseeing historical cost data on each project and reviewing the subcontractor database for modifications and updates.
Key Responsibilities
- Bid Leadership: Providing overall leadership and direction needed to perform quality estimates.
- Estimates: Analyzing plans, specifications, construction cost data, and other contract documents to identify scope, risk, and opportunities.
- Coverage: Coordinating activities of estimators to ensure project progress on schedule and with prescribed coverage of all trades.
- Job Walks and Pre-Bid Conferences: Attending job walks and pre-bid conferences concerning contract requirements, job conditions, competition, and/or any other issues or risks associated with the project.
- Technical Advice: Confer with project leaders and superintendents to obtain and/or provide technical advice and to help prepare bids.
