Job Description
The IT Engineering manager leads and directs a team of engineers responsible for the design of infrastructure necessary to support corporate projects and technologies. They work directly with a Managed Service Provider (MSP) or necessary support group to ensure that work is prioritized, correctly performed, SLAs are met, and issues are promptly resolved. They also are responsible for determining future improvements, subscribing to a continuous improvement philosophy.

- The Systems Manager will oversee IT architecture, development, vendor management, and collaboration with engineering teams to develop specifications and requirements that adhere to security, architectural, and infrastructure policies. In cases where existing procedures are inadequate or non-existent, they will collaborate with the relevant architecture and application teams to create or modify procedures as necessary to meet business needs.
- The Systems Manager will be responsible for designing, developing, implementing and / or operating technologies in IT infrastructure in a production environment.
- The Systems Manager is expected to be a team player, provide and be receptive to feedback, and comfortable dealing with unknowns.
- Manage and overseeing vendors, particularly a managed services vendor.
- Work with various cloud providers (ex. Oracle, Azure).
- Oversee the engineering team responsible for the design of infrastructure solutions and projects necessary to meet business and application requirements, coordinate with the Managed Service Provider.
- Ensure compliance with technical policies and standards and work with Architects to create or modify as necessary to ensure the best solution.
- Provide technical guidance and coaching (OJT) to team members including cross training personnel, administering performance reviews, and developing training plans.
- Manage and motivate team of analysts responsible for the incident management and day to day operations of selected systems, platforms, and / or products as well as identify improvements to help reduce unplanned outages and missed SLAs.
- Work with the managed service provider to ensure SLAs are met and where they are not, work with the provider to develop a plan of action to get back on track.
- Hold regular meetings with the managed service provider to discuss work, resolve issues, and future direction of the organization with regards to new technologies and processes.
- Ensure managed service provider compliance with organizational policies and standards.
- Responsible for managing the team's budget.
- Establish and maintain the technical capabilities required for successful operation of the engineering organization.
- Perform administrative duties such as scheduling coverage, approving timesheets, contractor receipts in Oracle, monthly account transfers, and works with and monitors all vendor work.
- Review and approve of design packages before they are released to the managed service provider.
- Conduct duties on behalf of Director as delegated.
- Perform other related tasks and assignments as required.
