Job Description
Con Edison, a multibillion-dollar energy utility, is leading the clean energy transition in New York City and Westchester County. We are investing hundreds of millions of dollars to integrate distributed resources into our electric and gas systems, enable the deployment and adoption of bulk energy storage systems, and scale adoption of all manner of energy efficiency and distributed energy resources for our customers.The Con Edison Energy Storage team seeks a motivated individual with strong analytical skills and strategy experience to serve a key role in shaping and implementing the Company's energy storage strategy in line with the 2024 Energy Storage Order. The Section Manager- Energy Storage Strategy will be a motivated, strategic thinker who leads complex operational and financial analyses, manages strategic initiatives, and drives the process of obtaining strategic alignment, both across the organization and with external stakeholders, in a broad and rapidly evolving business environment to implement the Energy Storage vision for the regulated utility. In addition, this position will focus on potential industry changes for an evolving power grid for New York and emerging energy storage technologies. This includes providing more information to stakeholders about system needs to direct customer solutions in areas where they will have the greatest benefit to the system and our customers, developing the Company roadmap for future bulk storage use cases and business models, and a deep understanding of emerging energy storage technologies use cases.Further, the Section Manager will support regulatory, technology, and data analytics work to ensure the grid's capabilities can support the coming transition and New York State's CLCPA mandates clean energy goals; will lead the development of new Company storage market participation and accounting processes that deliver on expected customer benefits and will inform detailed economic modelling analysis and regulatory filings related to bulk energy storage which include whitepapers, technical conferences, and interrogatories.Finally, the Section Manager will leverage strong emotional intelligence and communication skills to motivate internal teams in setting new processes and developing new business models for energy storage. They will act as a leader that advocates for and drives strategy towards implementation both internally and externally, garnering maximal support for success.
Responsibilities
Core Responsibilities
- Identify new business opportunities aligned with strategic objectives, develop business cases, and implementation plan to facilitate Company energy storage and State CLCPA goals.
- Refine and implement the Company strategy for achieving NYS Climate Leadership & Community Protection Act (CLCPA) energy storage goals by working across other impacted groups within Customer Energy Solutions, Energy Management, and Central Operations.
- Manage development of the companys roadmap for future bulk storage procurements and business models; understand emerging energy storage technologies use cases, and support regulatory, technology, and data analytics work to ensure the grids capabilities can support the coming transition and clean energy goals
- Own the strategic initiatives for Energy Storage and interface with various Company groups to share energy storage learnings, shape policy direction and identify new opportunities for energy storage that align with the Company's storage strategy and vision.
- Engage with external stakeholders, such as PSC, NYSERDA, Joint Utilities and other Market participants, on energy storage.
- Assist in communication and coordination with other utility and non-utility storage / Distributed Energy Resource (DER) teams to benchmark best practices, gather lessons learned, and identify potential new solutions for utility issues.
- Coordinate with Transmission Planning on renewable resource adequacy needs to ensure bulk energy storage projects are designed with maximum value to both the distribution systems
- Support the companys bulk energy storage procurement and deployment strategy and continue to develop the Companys Utility Dispatch Rights functional expertise.
- Demonstrate core business skills and specialized knowledge that will advance energy storage objectives and contributes to the Companys long term energy storage goals.
- Analyze market model alternatives to facilitate informed decision making and assists in the formulation of the Companys strategic direction; develop presentations and effectively communicate findings to senior management.
- Engage with regulators, and support the reporting requirements of Bulk Energy Storage objectives to New York Public Service Commission and Staff
- Lead tasks related to authoring white papers, rate case filings and other regulatory documentation.
- Commit to the ideals of developing a proactive, customer-centric culture to foster trust and confidence among customers (both internal and external) and improve value for all our stakeholders.
