Expected salary range of $63,000 to $70,000, varies based on experience, along with comprehensive benefits package that includes bonus and 401(k).
PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION
Data Center Operations Technician is responsible for supporting the day-to-day needs at our IT Collocation facility in Ashburn, VA as well as critical network rooms throughout other company locations. Work is performed under the general direction of more experienced personnel who primarily work remotely. Overall purpose of this position is to support the operational, infrastructure, engineering, design, and project needs of company data center operations with a commitment to delivering high availability, performance, and security in dynamic data center environments. Expertise is required in equipment installation, system monitoring, troubleshooting, and maintenance of servers, storage systems, power systems, and networking devices.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Manage work within an IT ticketing system that aligns to the fundamentals of the ITIL (Information Technology Infrastructure Library) framework with a focus IT Service Management, Operations Management and Change Management
- Cabling installation and troubleshooting. Plan, Design and Install physical cabling (copper and fiber), cable management systems, patch panels, cross-connects, raised floor cabling. Includes specifying requirements for procurement of physical cabling to support operational and project needs. Use of specialized tools and equipment for testing, troubleshooting and repairing cables.
- Inventory and Asset management. Responsible for maintaining accuracy and completeness of IT asset and inventory systems for all aspects of data center operations. Conducting routine audits and walkdowns of equipment and racks to verify the integrity of IT asset management systems. Working with appropriate support teams to ensure IT configuration management systems are kept accurate. Facilitating the shipping and receiving of equipment going in and out of the data center locations.
- Documentation and Reporting. Responsible for creating, maintaining, and reviewing documentation related to data center operations responsibilities. Includes creation, review and use of MOP (method of procedure) documents, equipment/rack/power drawings, routine use documents such as checklists for performing work, and other documents, drawings and reports necessary for ongoing data center operations.
- Facility & Environmental Controls. Responsible for monitoring and maintaining optimal data center environmental conditions, including electrical power and HVAC systems. Work with vendors and facility maintenance groups to get mechanical systems repaired when needed and ensure that preventive maintenance is being performed.
- IT Equipment Troubleshooting & Maintenance. Responsible for responding to IT incidents and requests for supporting break/fix and general requests for support such as routine upgrades, patches, and system improvements to maintain system integrity. Includes a focus on rapid issue resolution that may require off-hours response (nights, weekends) and escorting of vendors and visitors within restricted areas of the company.
- IT Equipment Monitoring. Responsible for routine walkdowns and audits of IT equipment for the identification of trouble, error or informational status (indicator lights, audible alarms, system display messages, etc.). Required to use IT service management systems to record anomalous conditions for proper notification to relevant support groups.
- Facility cleanliness. Responsible for the cleanliness and organization in the data center space, ensuring compliance with safety standards and company expectations.
- Operate within a regulated environment to meet requirements of, and adhering to, NERC CIP and FERC government regulations. Requirements include maintaining necessary qualifications and physical access for the support of the Constellation Regulated Network (CRN).
- Travel is required to support remote data center locations outside of normal job location area. Travel expected to be 0-25% to perform tasks such as: emergent work at unstaffed locations, conducting inventory and asset audits, routine audits of general condition of remote data center locations.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field -or- Associate's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field with 2 years of experience -or- High school diploma or equivalent with 4 years of experience
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment. Coordination with various stakeholders during troubleshooting and support requests to ensure no loss of business continuity.
- Hands-on experience in troubleshooting, monitoring, and maintaining IT infrastructure.
- Understanding of data center infrastructure and industry best practices.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
- Strong communication skills for clear reporting and effective team collaboration, both verbal and written.
- Ability to lift and move equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to work in physically demanding environments, including standing for extended periods and work in high noise areas using hearing protection.
- Experience working in a large data center preferred.
- ITIL Framework certification preferred.
- Certifications related to IT and Data Center Operations preferred.
- Vendor specific certifications preferred (HP, Cisco, Dell, etc.).
- Knowledge of networking protocols such as TCP/IP, DNS, and DHCP.
- Proficient with server operating systems, including Linux and Windows.
- Experience using ServiceNOW IT ticketing system
