Hospice Volunteer Program Coordinator


The Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for assisting with the planning, coordinating, and managing of all volunteer program activities.


Responsibilities:

  • Recruit and orient volunteers.
  • Oversee volunteer training and orientation program.
  • Establish a need for volunteer services with the patient and family/caregiver and hospice interdisciplinary team.
  • Collaborate with team members and attend interdisciplinary team meetings, representing volunteers and contributing to patient care plans.
  • Assign, coordinate and supervise volunteer activities, primarily: Direct patient care, Veteran appreciation, Administrative, Bereavement, and special projects as needed
  • Maintain volunteer documentation
  • Instruct in documentation requirements
  • Receive and review volunteer reports and share this information with the team
  • Record of volunteer hours, mileage and activities
  • Supervise and evaluate volunteers
  • Maintain quarterly statistics: prepare statistical reports such as records of volunteer activities and documentation that volunteer hours are >5% of direct patient care staff hours.
  • Reevaluate volunteer program as necessary.
  • Coordinate support/education meetings.
  • Provide information to individuals and community groups about hospice volunteer services.
  • Actively participate in quality assessment performance improvement teams and activities.
  • Accept and perform other related duties and responsibilities.
  • Collaborate with volunteer coordinators in other offices/states.


Qualifications:

  • College degree, advanced degree in human services preferred.
  • Minimum of one (1) year experience in a health care setting. Hospice and/or volunteer experience preferred.
  • Ability to supervise, coordinate, and evaluate volunteer services.
  • Understand hospice philosophy.
  • Ability to organize and develop volunteer hospice personnel for both patient and organizational needs.
  • Ability to manage a group of individuals providing volunteer time and who will be considered employees.
  • Strong attention to detail
