11th Hour Hospice Volunteer
Constellation Health Services Hospice program is looking for volunteers to visit patients who have terminal illnesses. Make a difference in your community, be part of the hospice team, and have a flexible volunteer schedule. A few hours a week can make a big difference to someone nearing the end of life!
11th Hour Volunteer Position Description:
- Caring presence for patients nearing death, including emotional support, spiritual support, and comfort measures
- Demonstrate understanding of the dying process and ability to provide compassion and support
- Desire to support patients and families at the time when a patient is actively dying
- At least 6 months of hospice experience
- Comfortable with the death and dying process
- Be a listener
- Sit with patients overnight to provide respite to caregivers
- Pray with patients as requested
- Advocate for the patient as needed
- Run errands, and make phone calls for caregivers who do not wish to leave the patient's bedside
- Minimum commitment of 1 year
- Maintain an accurate record of hours
Requirements:
- At least 18 years old.
- Able to commit for one year to our program.
- Able to commit to at least 4 hours per week.
- Ability to listen deeply, interest in and compassion for others, good boundaries and self-care, and meet people where theyre at in energy and tone.
- Online training takes approximately 20 hours and is personally enriching, focusing on personal death awareness and hospice philosophy.
- No close death in the last year
