What are the responsibilities and job description for the Quality Inspector position at Constellium?
Responsibilities:
- Responsible for the content, quality and execution of the Parsytec system
- Develop SOP’s, reaction plans, one pagers and any other needed documents to ensure continual improvement of our quality systems and processes.
- Reports outgoing quality disposition and held metal analysis on a daily basis
- Responsible for the final determination on Quality issues affecting the customer or escalate as necessary
- Responsible for the content, quality and execution of the Camera Inspection equipment and the defect classification system.
- Responsible for the maintenance vendor audit process of camera inspection equipment. Performs physical vendor audits as business needs dictate with respect to automated inspection equipment
- Responsible for ensuring proper documentation of the work performed prior to final shipment.
- Administers the identification of customer complaint defects with recommended disposition and classification
- Responsible for content and execution of the disposition of rework.
- Responsible for the final determination on rework issues.
- Alerts supervisors, operators, and process team when inspections indicate major or consistent quality discrepancies and meets with quality team and APU leadership to discuss rejection findings on produced coils.
- Examines camera images to detect surface defects and verifies width, gauge, diameter, and other specifications using precision with measuring device, optical microscope, gauge by weight, micrometers, etc.
- Identify Defect Pattern Definitions – lanes, repeats, top/bottom mirror images, etc.
- Completes FDS sheets indicating reasons materials or parts failed inspection. Ensure appropriate information is listed to rework nonconforming product.
- Responsible for Parsytec classification system and defect library
- Develops go/no-go standards by defect for operators
- Provides feedback upstream/downstream to the mills regarding defect trends, locations, severity, and other insights to assist in root cause analysis
- Research issues for customer service representatives to address customer complaints
- Coaches' operators on defect recognition and disposition
Qualifications:
- B.S. degree in Material Science, Technical, Business, or related field or high school education with equivalent practical experience.
- 2-3 yrs quality experience in an Aluminum rolling mill preferred
- Familiarity with Statistical Process Control
- Experience with Quality Management Systems
- Experience with SAP required. Proficiency in analytical and reporting tools (MS Excel, etc.) is strongly desired.
- Must be capable of facilitating and leading meetings to accomplish a positive and effective outcome.
- Effective oral and written communication skills; high level of autonomy, collaboration and interpersonal skills are equally important
- Perform, understand and communicate detailed information analysis and evaluation, and have a good track record working effectively within a team-based environment
- Ability to handle multiple tasks and establish appropriate priorities.
- Data-driven when approaching process development, process improvement, and problem-solving
- Ability to work in cross-organizational and multi-functional teams in a global matrix organization with manufacturing operations and an international mindset
- Ability to work in extreme temperatures in plant environment often requiring extensive walking or moving about the plant or standing for long periods of time
