Guthrie Broome Orthopedic and Spine Surgery Center is hiring for an experienced Director of Nursing to join our team!
Position Purpose:
The Director of Nursing provides nursing and administrative direction to the Pre-op/PACU and Surgery departments of the Center. The Director of Nursing is accountable and responsible for planning, organizing, directing, and coordinating the clinical operations of the surgery center.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Licenses or Certifications: Current, unencumbered licensure to practice in the State of New York.
Education and Experience: Graduate of an Accredited School of Nursing. A BSN or equivalent experience is preferred. Significant experience in clinical nursing is required. Current experience in ambulatory surgery is required. Demonstrated managerial competence and management experience preferred. Must have the ability to manage multiple facility operations.

Job Knowledge
- Provides clinical and operational expertise to all clinical facets of the surgery center.
- Serves as a high visibility leader, role model, professional mentor, and resource; represents a positive image of the organization.
- Ensures excellence in quality, safety, and regulatory requirements
· Works closely with the Medical Director to collaborate on all clinical matters and participates in clinical discussions and initiatives.
- Ensures patient care delivery is safe, of high quality, and is cost-effective
- Collaborates with physicians, Administrator, managers, and team members to identify innovative programs that will impact on growth, quality and/or efficiency of each facility.
- Assists the Administrator in the development of annual goals and objectives for the center, ensuring that goals are appropriate and mutually beneficial to the surgery center.
- Communicates/interprets annual goals and objectives to team members.
- Develops/implements/coordinates staff recruitment and retention plan to ensure growth.
- Responds to emergency situations with competence and composure
- Consults with department managers and Administrator on environmental issues to ensure timely resolution
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
Work is indoors in a climate-controlled environment. Patient care environment with potential exposure to unpleasant odors, to blood and body fluids which may carry infection, to infectious disease, and to chemical and electrical hazards. Occasional exposure to outdoor climate.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Good visual acuity, accurate color vision. Ability to lift/transfer patients in excess of 100 pounds, which may require pushing, pulling and essentially utilizing a full range of body movement. Ability to push a gurney with a 150 pound patient on it. Ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch and/or crawl. Ability to reach, grasp, use fine finger movement and feel fine sensation to discern temperature, texture, size and shape. Ability to lift 25-pound instrument trays. Ability to push heavy equipment on wheels within the OR suite. Ability to speak and hear. Ability to wear lead apron.
