Junior Construction Project Accountant
We are seeking a Junior Construction Project Accountant for a flexible, hourly, part-time role with the potential to scale to full-time based on mutual agreement. Reporting directly to the In-House Accountant, you will play an integral role in overseeing financial activities, maintaining records, and contributing to the financial health of our construction projects. This position is ideal for college students looking to gain practical experience in accounting or for someone seeking a role that provides a work-life balance with a flexible schedule. Time commitment can range from 15 to 40 hours per week, depending on your availability.
Responsibilities
Financial Oversight
- Assist in maintaining and standardizing accounting records and techniques.
- Support internal audits to assess financial status and ensure accurate reporting.
- Ensure compliance with federal and state regulations in collaboration with the In-House Accountant.
Accounts Payable (AP)
- Review and process vendor invoices for accuracy and timely payment.
- Reconcile invoices with purchase orders and receiving reports, promptly resolving discrepancies.
- Maintain up-to-date vendor records.
Accounts Receivable (AR)
- Assist in preparing and issuing client invoices accurately and on time.
- Monitor and follow up on accounts receivable to ensure timely payments.
- Resolve billing issues in collaboration with clients and project managers.
Budgeting & Reporting
- Collaborate with project managers to prepare budgets and monitor project costs.
- Provide financial updates, including variance analyses, to support project planning and decision-making.
- Contribute to cash flow forecasts and cost analyses for ongoing projects.
Compliance & Audit Support
- Assist in gathering data for external audits and serve as a point of contact for auditors.
- Support compliance efforts with federal and state financial regulations.
Administrative Support
- Organize financial documentation and maintain accounting systems with accuracy.
- Provide administrative support to the In-House Accountant as required.
Qualifications
Experience & Skills
- Associate degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (bachelor’s degree preferred or majoring in Accounting).
- 1 years of experience in accounting, ideally within the construction industry.
- Skilled user of accounting systems (e.g., QuickBooks or NetSuite preferred).
- Strong knowledge of GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles).
- Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills.
- Strong understanding of job costing.
