We are looking for:
The Principal Instructional Designer will be responsible for the development of learning using all modes of delivery, designing and developing innovative, interactive learning courses for a variety of content areas. You will build out our learning courses including instructor led, virtual, e-learning, videos, assessments, performance demonstrations, and collections. You will create new courses and revise existing courses. This position requires strong project management skills in a fast-paced environment with a strong proficiency analyzing the audience, project scope, timeline and developing content, using CE technologies, and ensuring solutions follow standard work while integrating innovative, interactive and experiential learning. You will mentor co-workers, manage co-ops, interns and contractors, and lead project teams both internally and externally with oversight of project work. You must demonstrate proficiency in learning management systems and terminology, e-learning authoring tools and designing to learning industry standards (SCORM/AICC/xAPI/etc.). You will problem solve defects, issues, manage trends, and own the employee experience index.
- Maintain current knowledge of standard work in Consumers Energy, including Learning & Development Standard Work.
- Strong consultative skills with the ability to successfully interact with clients to assess needs and develop appropriate training solutions.
- Knowledge and/or familiarity with adult learning principles and the ability to apply instructional design principles to training development.
- Experience with loading and managing courseware and documentation, setting up course data, managing reporting, and using role-based implementation (Assignment Profiles) into a Learning Management System (SAP Success Factors/Workforce Connect).
- Proficiency in MS-Office Tools.
- Strong project management skills to manage multiple projects with schedules, operating reviews, risk and issue logs, and resource management.
- Expert-level proficiency in writing and editing content for learning materials.
- Entry level supervisory experience with new hires, co-ops, interns, or student teachers.

Required qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Instructional Design, Adult Learning or equivalent
- 7-10 years’ work experience in instructional design, training program management, and training project management. Experience in assessing performance gaps, analyzing learning needs, designing and developing learning and performance support solutions, and evaluating program effectiveness. Demonstrated track record of developing a variety of learning modalities such as eLearning modules, virtual learning, instructor-led, performance support aids, microlearning, simulations, video and collaborative learning environments.

In this role, you will:
- Design, Develop and Implement engaging training deliverables and course content, selecting the most effective training methodology to meet the desired objectives and incorporates standards, procedures, processes, equipment, tools and work methods.
- Follows all Consumers Energy and L&D standard work and enhance student retention and knowledge transfer. Ensures 100% accuracy and timeliness of deliverables to clients. Ensure all documentations from project start to finish follow Document Management and Records Management Procedures. Develops templates to support efficient development and authoring. Updates instructional design standard work, as needed.
- Leads problem-solving initiatives (4-diamond, Root Cause Analysis, or other Lean tools) to solve defects, issues, escalations and problems. Applies a strong problem-solving approach to ensure problems are solved right the first time. Ensures Standard Work reflects continuous improvements to reflect adoption of continuous improvement.
- Incorporates learning experiences, activities, assignments, assessments, instructor guides, participant workbooks, slide decks, e-learning modules, and job aids/tools, games, videos, and other techniques into course development. Integrates multiple learning objects that may be part of a curriculum or program or collection, have substitutes, prerequisites.
- Develops detailed project plans using project management tools and templates and the CE Way Lean system. Manages upwards of seven projects on a daily basis, ensuring all deadlines are met and projects are completed according to standard work. Has high attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple projects and timelines.
- Collaborates and communicates (verbal and written) with clients, stakeholders, subject matter experts throughout the duration of projects. Collaborates with SMEs and stakeholders to build iterative design documents and prototypes, incorporating multiple rounds of stakeholder and subject matter expert feedback to optimize the solutions. Ensures alignment with internal and external stakeholders on project plans and development to execute a solution that is congruent with overall project goals.
- Supports evaluation measurement strategy to measure the value and impact of learning programs. Can serve as an evaluator for courses, programs and curriculums to perform various levels of evaluation. Reviews EXI evaluation reports at the class level to determine improvement opportunities. Owns the Employee Experience Index (EXI) for the courses developed.
- Load courseware and documentation to the Learning Management System (SAP Success Factors/Workforce Connect), interlinking content to internal and external content as needed. Ensures implementation is planned for initial requirements and incorporates requalification's considerations into project planning. Leads the use of Assignment Profiles into every applicable training.
