Software Engineer - Developer Experience

About the opportunity

As a Software Engineer on Contentful’s Ecosystem team, you will play a critical role in developing and refining tools, libraries, and documentation that make building on top of Contentful fast and easy for customer developers. You will be designing, developing, and maintaining developer tools such as client libraries/SDKs, the Contentful CLI, and developer documentation. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to champion the needs of external developer users across the company in order to provide guidance and ensure quality standards. Your expertise in creating seamless and intuitive developer experiences will play a direct role in Contentful’s growth and customer retention. The ideal candidate will be passionate about building remarkable solutions that make integration, content delivery, extensibility, and all other developer-centered Contentful tasks intuitive, fast, and easy. 

What to expect?

Developer Experience:

• Design and implement strategies that improve Contentful’s developer user experience.
• Build tools and frameworks that streamline the end-to-end development process.
• Identify and develop product enhancements to maximize the platform’s extensibility.
• Collaborate with UX/UI designers to create intuitive and user-friendly interfaces for developer products.

Developer Tools:

• Contribute to the development and improvement of tools that allow developers to customize Contentful to meet user and business needs.
• Actively engage with feedback from internal teams and external developers to identify and implement enhancements to our developer tools and SDKs.
• Stay updated with industry trends and emerging technologies to ensure our tools and SDKs remain cutting-edge and provide a remarkable developer experience.

Technical Leadership:

• Provide collaborative guidance to other engineers, fostering an inclusive and innovative work environment.
• Proactively drive alignment between product teams and cross-functional stakeholders.
• Stay up-to-date with advancements in developer tools, industry trends, and emerging technologies to drive innovation and maintain a competitive edge.

Community Engagement:

• Engage with customer and partner developers in order to stay connected with the struggles they face and help inform the team’s work and priorities.
• Monitor and respond to Contentful’s existing and prospective customers to obtain feedback, help drive the product vision, and find areas of opportunity and innovation.

What you need to be successful

• Create excellent products and services using TypeScript, React, and Node.js with a solid understanding of clean code practices and exposure to enterprise architectural design patterns.
• Experience with recent trends in developer tooling, developer productivity, and maintaining public, open-source libraries is a plus.
• Is a strong communicator with a passion for collaboration and pair programming.
• Is excited about collaborating with a broader engineering organization across multiple time zones and handling asynchronous communication.
• A passion for AI-driven innovation, thinking about how we can incorporate AI into extending our platform and building developer tools.

This role will need to be conducted in a state in which we are currently registered to do business. 

Colorado Salary Statement: The salary range displayed is specifically for those potential hires who will work or reside in the state of Colorado if selected for the role. Any offered salary is determined based on internal equity, internal salary ranges, market data/ranges, applicant's skills and prior relevant experience, certain degrees and certifications (e.g. JD/technology), for example.

Colorado Salary Range: $118,000 - $167,000
