Job Summary
Working in a Shared Services team environment, the Payroll Manager is responsible for leading the team that processes and audits payroll for multiple locations with over 2,300 employees. Duties include responding to Directors and Supervisor inquiries and issues, staying current on wage and hour updates, and possessing expertise in Payroll software (ADP WFN and eTime). This role involves hands-on payroll responsibilities along with leadership responsibilities.
This is a full-time onsite position based in Carlsbad, CA.
Responsibilities
- Maintain and review payroll processing systems to ensure timely and accurate processing of payroll transactions including salaries, benefits, garnishments, taxes, and other deductions.
- Ensure accurate and timely processing of payroll updates such as new hires, terminations, and changes to pay rates.
- Prepare and maintain accurate records and reports of payroll transactions.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll, wage, and hour laws as well as best practices.
- Facilitate audits by providing records and documentation to auditors and develop internal audit processes.
- Identify and recommend updates to payroll processing software, systems, and procedures.
- Manage payroll staff by interviewing, hiring, and training new staff, overseeing daily workflow, and providing annual development reviews
- Assist the Shared Services team with special projects as requested.
- Perform specific work duties and responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications
- 5-10 years of payroll processing experience, with at least 2 years of supervisory experience.
- Knowledge of ADP Workforce Now and eTime preferred.
- Thorough understanding of California wage and hour laws and federal government laws related to payroll.
- Proactive learner with a commitment to providing excellent customer service.
- Strong computer literacy, including Microsoft Office applications.
- Exceptional multitasking and organizational skills with impeccable analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to investigate, document, and resolve issues in a timely and professional manner.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Associate's or bachelor's degree in business or accounting preferred.
- Certified Payroll Professional certification is a plus.
- Payroll experience in a healthcare environment is a plus.
