At Continuum Care Center Our Peer Support Specialists are passionate about helping others achieve their recovery goals while utilizing their own experiences as a source of inspiration. The specialist helps identify and build on their client's strengths while assisting them in gaining information and support from the community to make their goals a reality.
The Peer Support Specialist will also serve as a supportive mentor to the client and the outreach team engaging peers in the homeless population and within the Housing support Department.
Experience
Responsibilities/Job Description:
- Meet with clients on a regular basis, or as needed after the initial meeting, to discuss routine recovery issues from a peer perspective.
- Provide direct assistance in the form of transportation, filling out forms or making phone calls, and accompanying clients to appointments and court appearances.
- Transporting and staying with clients at crisis appointments.
- Assist in finding necessary community services to meet basic needs.
- Performs outreach and follow-up with non-residential program participants and help acclimate recovery clients to their new surroundings and explore recovery resources in the area.
- Provide education about and attend self-help groups, obtaining sponsorship, and assisting clients in finding recovery support meetings that accommodate their schedules.
- Exhibit model behavior that is consistent with, and supportive of, people in recovery from chemical dependency. They are responsible for upholding ethical standards of the program and reliable attendance.
- Provide basic personal assistance in the completion of daily living skills as needed to support clients and housing staff.
- Serve as the contact person for in-house meetings, facilitate in-house Alumnae Meeting, and attend outside meetings with clients.
- Transporting clients to and from Medication Assisted &/or Therapy appointments.
- Assist in developing and implementing Alumna community events.
- Assist in planning and supervising recreational activities for clients.
- Maintain confidential client records.
- Process client record requests.
- Perform other routine support tasks, including filing, photocopying, answering telephones, and compiling statistical reports.
- Attend weekly staff meetings.
- Provide documentation of services delivered
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Must complete DHS background check and be cleared to work in human service programs
- Acknowledge freedom from substance abuse problems
- Must be a Certified Peer Recovery Specialist through the State of Minnesota.
Job Types: Full-time, Part-time, Contract
Pay: $21.00 - $22.00 per hour
Expected hours: 25 – 30 per week
