GENERAL SUMMARY

The Pharmacy Director is responsible for the administrative and clinical direction of programs and services as described on the organizational chart.  Ensures that operations are efficient for each program, service, and site. Ensures coordination of care, treatment, and service processes among programs, services, sites, and departments throughout the Medical Center.  Maintains awareness of community needs and addresses them appropriately.  Creates an environment that enables the Medical Center to fulfill its Mission and meet Strategic Initiatives.  Communicates mission and initiatives to staff.  Responsible for the implementation and coordination of drug control in the process of providing pharmaceutical care for patients of all ages within the Medical Center.  Plans, organizes, and supervises the clinical, distributive, financial, and administrative activities of the Pharmacy Department, according to hospital policies, standard practices of the pharmacy profession, and state and federal laws.

Looking for a strategic leader with a developer mindset, to help grow and develop the leadership team. The Director will oversee 4 Managers and potentially 6 more direct reports (analysists, etc). Those Managers oversee a team of 125 (pharmacists and techs).

Full-time Day shift. Must relocate to Lincoln, Nebraska; this is not a remote position. Relocation assistance available.

 

PRINCIPAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

1. *Commits to the mission, vision, beliefs and consistently demonstrates our core values.

2. *Develops strategies and plans and directs the 340B Drug Pricing Program for all qualifying Medical Center locations. Collaborates with finance, legal and senior leadership to integrate a comprehensive and compliant 340B program.

3. *Provides leadership for each organizational program, service, site or department in areas of responsibility.

4. *Ensures appropriate measures are in place for safe medication delivery and administration.

5. *Ensures consistency in interpretation and application of the patient care delivery model, mission, vision, and beliefs and behaviors of the organization.

6. Maintains scope of services to meet the needs and expectations of patients, families and referral sources/customers.

7. Develops programs and services based on needs analysis and facilitates their implementation and evaluation.

8. *Assesses the usage of pharmaceuticals and other supplies in terms of volumes, cost and alternative less costly available items; ensures that sufficient supplies of pharmaceuticals and supplies are maintained within the Pharmacy Department to meet immediate patient needs.

9. *Ensures that clinical staff resources and assignments are consistent with meeting patient care needs; activates resources and integrates services with other departments to foster interdepartmental relations.

10. Functions as a preceptor for pharmacy students as requested.

11. Resolves concerns by patients, families, staff and physicians; promotes medical staff relationships.

12. Communicates patient and employee satisfaction survey results and develops action plans for improvement.

13. Ensures licenses, certifications and competencies of staff are maintained on a current basis and in compliance with medical center, state and federal regulations.

14. Ensures orientation, in-service education, and continuing education of all persons in areas of responsibility; facilitates clinical affiliations with academic programs.

15. *Reviews and selects products for primary, secondary and individual pharmacy contracts; determines sources for pharmaceutical and related supply procurement; initiates requests for pricing agreements from vendors, as appropriate, to obtain favorable pricing and reduce cost for pharmaceuticals and related supplies.

16. Ensures performance appraisals for all management and staff are completed with meaningful feedback and within established time frame.

17. *Maintains professional dialogues with local, state and national pharmacy professional organizations, physicians and other medical personnel on pertinent issues.

18. Maintains effective recruitment and retention plans for staffing.

19. *Ensures compliance with all regulatory agencies and codes, including Joint Commission; adheres to the Medical Center Corporate Compliance Plan.

20. Ensures appropriate monitoring of operations such as API, productivity, safety and professional education, documentation audits and develops plans for correction as needed.

21. Serves as a contributing member on assigned committees and task forces; promotes and facilitates collaborative problem solving.

22. Maintains and continually develops own professional competence through attendance at seminars, conferences, professional associations, and other activities.

23. Provides leadership and participates in Medical Center improvement initiatives and teams as assigned.

24. Performs other related projects and duties as assigned.

 

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

1. Knowledge of contemporary pharmacy drug distribution systems, financial management, pharmaceutical inventory control systems, drug information services and clinical pharmacy services.

2. Knowledge of regulatory standards/requirements and survey methods.

3. Knowledge of quality assessment and improvement methodologies.

4. Knowledge of budgetary and financial methods and practices.

5. Knowledge of clinical pharmacy practice to provide direction to the design, implementation, and management of clinical pharmacy services.

6. Knowledge of computer hardware equipment and software applications relevant to work functions.

7. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

8. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of personnel, Medical Center staff, physicians and vendors.

9. Ability to schedule, direct, counsel and evaluate employee work and performance.

10. Ability to balance and prioritize diverse management and clinical responsibilities.

11. Ability to adapt and effectively perform work functions in emergency and high stress situations.

12. Ability to maintain confidentiality relevant to sensitive information.

13. Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Doctorate of Pharmacy (PharmD) required.

Masters of Science in Hospital Pharmacy (Administration), MBA or MHA required; or willing to obtain within 36 months of hire date.

Pharmacist licensure in the State of Nebraska required.

Minimum of five (5) years hospital pharmacy practice experience

Minimum of three (3) years of management experience (as a manager or director of pharmacy) required.

Completion of a hospital pharmacy residency preferred.

340B preferred.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Physical Requirements are based on federal criteria and assigned by Human Resources upon review of the Principal Job Functions.

(DOT) – Characterized as sedentary work requiring exertion up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body.

Salary : $160,000
