POSITION SUMMARY
The Pharmacy Director is responsible for overseeing all medication storage, preparation, and distribution in the pharmacy. The Pharmacy Director ensures that the pharmacy provides optimal services; meets all legal, accreditation, and certification requirements; complies with all applicable policies, procedures, codes, and standards of practice.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
Supervisory
- Administrator of designated ContinuumRx HME and pharmacy personnel and helps recruit, interviews, promotes, and disciplines pharmacy staff
- Ensures performance standards in accordance with pharmacy job descriptions
- Prepares work schedules and monitors workflow processes
- Evaluates and counsels pharmacy staff on their performance
- Provides for the educational needs of the pharmacy staff
- Develops and enforces policies and procedures that promote cost-effective, appropriate, and safe medication use
- Supervises medication storage and preparation areas throughout the pharmacy
- Ensures that patients are assessed for appropriateness of therapy provided by the pharmacy
- Provides for the educational needs of pharmacy staff, patients, and their families
- Ensures maintenance of an adequate medication supply
- Ensures the integrity of the medication supply
- Establishes specifications for the procurement of medications, chemicals, and biological
- Ensures strict control and accountability for medications dispensed to patients or otherwise distributed
- Assures adequate control and documentation of controlled substances
- Ensures applicable continuing education records and licensure are maintained in department files
- Reviews monthly financial statistics and helps maintain expenditures within budget guidelines.
- Administers reports, documents, payroll records, statistical surveys, and other required data
- Ensures compliance with Corporate policies and procedures that apply to pharmacy services
- Ensures compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations
- Ensures compliance with all applicable accreditation standards to maintain accreditation status
- Availability for assisting with On-Call responsibilities, as needed. ("Taking Call/Being On-Call")
- Complete understanding of confidentiality with respect to Company proprietary information as well as information concerning patient/client care; complying with all federal and state laws as apply to confidentiality of protected health information (PHI) and electronic protected health information (EPHI); and following HIPAA guidelines regarding readily identifiable protected health information.
