We are hiring for the 2025 season! Contractor Services, Inc. (CSI) is a traffic control company based in North Platte, Nebraska. Our service area includes central Nebraska to the panhandle and eastern Colorado.
CSI provides traffic control services, roadway and airport pavement marking, pavement marking removals, temporary barrier rail, temporary signals, message boards and other smart zone equipment. CSI is a fast-growing company looking for employees that are ready to grow with us.
Safety is the most important part of a construction project. CSI employees will help create a safe work zone by installing traffic control devices on roadway construction projects.

The Smart Zone Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of various portable traffic control and monitoring devices used in work zones. This includes portable message boards, portable traffic signals, portable arrow boards, portable camera trailers, and radar or microwave detection systems. The technician ensures all equipment is functioning correctly to maintain public safety and efficient traffic flow.
Abilities/Skills:
Follow the Safety handbook.
Must be at least 22 years of age.
Clean driving record.
Communicate well with others.
Work outside in all weather conditions.
Lift 80 pounds.
Technical certification or associate degree in electronics, electrical technology, or related field (preferred).
Experience working with portable traffic control devices, electrical systems, or similar equipment (preferred).
Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and schematics.
Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills.
Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment
Willing to learn new skills.
Willing to travel out of state.
Job Tasks:
Transport, install, and configure portable message boards, traffic signals, arrow boards, and camera trailers in designated work zones.
Set up radar and microwave detection systems to monitor traffic flow and speed.
Calibrate and program devices to ensure accurate messaging and signal operation.
Perform routine maintenance on all smart zone equipment to ensure optimal performance.
Troubleshoot and repair electrical, mechanical, and software issues on portable devices.
Replace parts and update software as needed to maintain operational standards.
Monitor equipment functionality remotely or on-site to ensure continuous operation.
Document and report any malfunctions, repairs, and maintenance performed.
Communicate with supervisors and project managers about equipment status and potential issues
Ensure all equipment is installed and operated in compliance with local, state, and federal traffic control regulations.
Follow company safety procedures when working on or around roadways and construction sites.
Maintain a clean and organized work environment, both in the shop and on-site.
Read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
Operate diagnostic tools to identify and resolve hardware and software issues
Stay current with industry technology and advancements in traffic control systems.
Provide excellent customer service to contractors, project managers, and other stakeholders.
Collaborate with team members to ensure efficient and safe operation of smart zone equipment.
Train coworkers or new employees on proper equipment use and maintenance, as needed.
Working on and around high-speed traffic, highway, and interstate.
PPE (hard hat, safety vest, eye protection, gloves) is required.
Training will begin after passing flagger training and assistant traffic control management classes.
This is a position that requires safety to be put first, as you will be working near traffic and other contractors. PPE (hard hat, safety vest, eye protection, gloves) is required and successful applicants will need to provide proper footwear and attire.
