Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled and experienced BMS HVAC Design Engineer to join our team in Omaha, NE. The successful candidate will be responsible for the design of the building management systems (BMS) and HVAC systems in commercial and industrial buildings. The technician will work closely with project managers, clients, contractors, and other stakeholders to ensure that all systems are properly installed, integrated, and function as intended.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following.
Job Description
Building Automation Design Engineer
- Assist Project Manager in the completion of hardware/software requirements of multiple projects.
- Coordinate installation details with field electrician to resolve field technical problems promptly to prevent construction delays and cost overruns.
- Review Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing Drawings to identify Dampers, Valves, Equipment and Sensors
- Create valve and damper schedules for submission to the owners, architect, or mechanical contractor.
- Review the project specifications and Sequence of Operations
- Generation of RFI’s if required.
- Selection of sensors, control valves, dampers, air flow stations, controllers etc. and a deviation of the actual equipment and current estimated controls budget.
- Creation of the controls sequence and the point to point check out verification sheet.
- Control devices and controller wiring, terminations, interlock wiring diagrams.
- Preparation of I/O Summary
- Preparation of BMS network architecture
- Updating and creation of red line drawings and project As-built drawings
- Reduce operating costs by identifying cost-saving ideas.
- Software programming of Network and DDC level controllers
- Understanding complex control systems including diagnosing and troubleshooting networking and integration.
- Ability to read, modify, load, and functional test software, programming, and graphics utilizing various protocols.
- Other Duties may be assigned.
Requirements
- Requires knowledge of a variety of digital control systems and HVAC systems.
- The ability to read and interpret mechanical, electrical, and electronic diagrams.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Visio, Bluebeam Construction Software, Auto CAD, and Microsoft 365 suite.
- Familiarity with function block or script-based text programming is preferred.
- The required hours for this position are Monday through Friday 8:00 – 4:30 PM
- On call assignments may be required.
Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each duty satisfactorily. Problem-Solving and Analytical Skills, Building automation systems are complex and can involve troubleshooting intricate issues that arise from the interaction of different systems. This demands strong problem-solving and analytical skills to diagnose and fix issues efficiently.
Education: Bachelor's Degree (BS) in a science or engineering discipline is preferred; or experience with commercial heating, air conditioning and control systems and/or access control systems. Five years experience in performing the specialty and skill they are directly involved with as a working member of a team.
Language Skills: Must be able to effectively present and receive information in English, both formally and informally. Ability to read, analyze and interpret technical specifications, architectural drawings, construction documentation and electrical diagrams. Ability to write routine reports and business correspondence. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Other Skills: Must have a basic knowledge of and understanding of construction practices including contractual agreements. Ability to work closely with others and practice productive people skills including coaching and training.

Work Environment: The employee occasionally works in outside weather conditions and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions. Local area travel is required, and normal urban and rural traffic hazards exist. The employee is frequently required to travel to construction or job sites where normal construction hazards exist, including work near moving mechanical parts, work in high and precarious places, and the risk of electrical shock.
