REPORTING RELATIONSHIP & FUNCTIONAL ROLE
This position reports functionally to the Production Manager. The Hydraulic Technician position has four levels, each with slightly different requirements in education and/or experience.
REQUIREMENTS & CONDITIONS
Education: High School diploma or equivalent; Preferred: Trade school or other certifications.
Experience: There are five levels for the Hydraulic Technician, each building on the other as follows:
- Trainee – 0-1 years of experience as Hydraulic Technician with 2 – 5 years of mechanical assembly and/or repair experience with no specialized hydraulic certification.
- Tech 1 – 1 years’ experience as Hydraulic Technician with IFPS C&C Certification (Connectors & Conductors) (2 years of hydraulic experience may be accepted in lieu of Certification)
- Tech 2 - 2 years’ experience as Hydraulic Technician with IFPS IHM Certification (Industrial Hydraulic Mechanic) (3 years of hydraulic experience may be accepted in leu of Certification)
- Tech 3/ Senior Hydraulic Technician - 3 years’ experience as Hydraulic Technician with IFPS IHT Certification (Industrial Hydraulic Technician) (8 years of hydraulic experience may be accepted in leu of Certification or specialized hydraulic training/ or other certified schooling.)
Skills, Knowledge, Abilities: Know basic tools, average to good math skills (fractions), basic computer skills.
- Technical or vocational training in hydraulics or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience as a hydraulic mechanic.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to read and interpret hydraulic schematics and blueprints.
- Knowledge of hydraulic system troubleshooting and repair techniques.
- Experience with hydraulic testing equipment and tools.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Physical Requirements: Standing, sitting, climbing, walking, crouching, stooping, twisting, and bending.
Working Conditions/Environment: Shop conditions (no central heat or air conditioning); some outdoor work required; uniforms supplied.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND JOB DUTIES
Responsibilities:
- Assist/perform the assembly process and testing of hydraulic power units, lube systems, and components as per the job traveler, procedures, drawings, and verbal instructions.
- Teardown and inspect hydraulic and pneumatic components, including cylinders, pumps, valves, motors, accumulators and hoses while maintaining an organized and clean work area.
- Fluid and filter exchanges as needed based on oil sample analysis.
- Produce failure analysis
- Source hydraulic parts from OEM and aftermarket sources.
- Demonstrate the use of common hand tools.
- Demonstrate the use of torque wrenches, micrometers, dial calipers and multi-meters.
- Demonstrate good verbal and written communication skills in English.
- Diagnose hydraulic system malfunctions using various diagnostic tools and techniques, including electrical/hydraulic problems.
- Perform preventive maintenance on hydraulic systems to minimize downtime and extend equipment life.
- Work from drawings, sketches, wiring diagrams, machine operation and maintenance manuals, work order requests, and oral instructions to install, adjust, repair, and perform assigned maintenance duties.
- Periodically inspect conditions of plant operating machines and equipment for preventative maintenance purposes. Inspect and perform routine equipment care on all shop machinery, mobile equipment, and cranes.
- Cut, bend, thread conduit, pipe, and tubing.
- Maintain specified records of work performed, details of repairs, and material usage.
- Troubleshoot basic electrical circuits as they pertain to hydraulic controls
- Provides technical support, as necessary, to all departments and customers
- Work dutifully with Job coordinators and Shop Foreman to support the efficient and accurate quoting and billing of repair & service work
- Shop maintenance includes cleaning, organizing, trash removal, and securing valuables during non-working hours
Administrative/General:
- Assist in the development, review, and maintenance of processes, procedures, and guidelines.
- Assist in special projects assigned by the Production Manager.
- Subject to other duties and/or projects as assigned by CFI Management.
- Keep chronological records of service activity to include each service step, evaluation of system or component, parts request and installation, repairs, completions, and tests/certifications
