Metro Valve & Actuation, a second-generation company founded in 2001, specializing in high-quality valve and actuation products and services, seeks a Purchasing/Customer Service Representative. We are looking for a team player, problem solver, and self-starter who likes to take on work to improve processes and efficiency. This will be a pivotal role as it is instrumental in acquiring equipment and/or products. This position will ensure that customers and vendors receive exceptional service and support. It is also an important part of purchasing, including providing shipment, tracking, and updates to customers’ orders.
This role will be on-site at Metro Valve’s Piscataway, NJ office.
Responsibilities
-Be the “go-to” person for consolidating purchasing information and helping with customer service.
-Manage the vendor system to ensure that the pricing and cost information is up to date.
-Create and send out inventory and purchase order reports.
-Update and maintain the inventory system.
-Provide purchase orders to vendors once sales are finalized and orders and created.
-Review stock orders in collaboration with the Customer Service Manager.
-Reach out to vendors to verify shipment dates/timelines.
-Send daily reports to the internal team regarding purchase orders (order statuses, delivery dates, etc.).
-Answer phone calls and emails, providing great customer service and ensuring timely responses to customers’ inquiries.
-Send order fulfillment sheets to customers.
-Provide customers with updates on orders and expedite if needed to meet deadlines.
-Prepare submittals and send orders to the Purchasing department for processing.
-Assist with email outreach to customers.
-Collaborate with the Technical Sales department to review customer specifications on actuators’ sizes and other product components.
-Entering costs provided by Sales to maintain profit margins.
Skills, Education & Abilities
-High school diploma or equivalent
-3 years of customer service experience; exposure to purchasing and inventory is helpful.
-Proven customer or client service experience
-Detail-oriented with an ability to multi-task and wear many hats
-A creative self-starter, problem solver, and team player
-Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
-A great communicator who will represent the company to vendors and customers and communicate well with internal staff
-Reliable, flexible, organized, and good time management skills
-Ability to think and act independently, formulate and support new ideas, and champion new initiatives within and beyond the scope of one's responsibilities
Nice to haves: industry experience, proficiency with Microsoft Teams and SharePoint, and familiarity with CRM systems
