Ministry Function
Our drivers support the ministry of Convoy of Hope by providing safe and reliable transport for all Convoy of Hope product moved by truck.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Drives a truck for all types of Convoy of Hope driving needs, g., outreaches, disaster responses, Rural Initiatives, and procurement loads.
- Drives over the road with the expectation of travel. Is able to drive up to and including the maximum number of hours allowed by DOT regulations.
- Complies with all traffic laws, DOT regulations, and Convoy of Hope safety policies.
- Completes thorough pre-trip inspections on equipment and helps maintain equipment through preventive maintenance.
- Plans routes responsibly and professionally, navigating traffic, weather, and deadline challenges while complying with all safety policies.
- Leads and directs grocery distribution at outreaches.
- Assists in warehouse functions, g., unloading, product inventory, loading, and staging loads.
- Assists with other duties as requested.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- A current Class A Commercial Driver’s License and previous experience driving Class 8 tractor trailers is required. A current DOT physical card and knowledge of DOT regulations are required.
- Must have a safe driving record and consent to and pass a full background check.
- Must be at least 25 five years old with two or more years of full-time driving experience.
- Possesses good understanding and physical ability to properly secure all loads.
- Demonstrates good knowledge of truck maintenance and pre-trip responsibilities.
- Is able to drive different shifts of the day as needed, working within the legal Hours of Service parameters.
- Exhibits understanding of legal weight limit in different states, knowledge of how a trailer needs to be loaded to legally scale the weight on each axle, and physical ability and knowledge of how to shift tandems when needed to adjust weight.
- Displays good communication and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrates good understanding of legal truck routes and ability to use navigation tools such as GPS and a trucking atlas.
- Possesses current forklift license or ability to pass Convoy of Hope forklift exam, as well as ability to operate other warehouse equipment.
- Possesses physical ability to operate warehouse equipment, such as pallet jacks for loading and unloading trailers as needed.
- Possesses physical ability to load and unload freight, including getting in and out of a trailer safely.
- Attends and actively participates in Convoy of Hope At Home Week meetings and activities as a required responsibility to the organization and fellow team members.
- Serves as an advocate for the ministry, striving to nurture, broaden, and develop financial and other resource opportunities to support and expand organizational and program ministry.
- Positively represents the ministry of Convoy of Hope, including its mission statement and core values, to all outside constituencies.
- As a Christian organization, Convoy of Hope believes it is critical that team members embrace the organization’s religious purposes for which it exists and not only agree with its Statement of Faith but demonstrate it in their lives on an ongoing basis.
Supervisory Responsibilities
This position supervises volunteers as needed.
