Ministry Function
The Senior Director of Rural Initiatives supports the ministry of Convoy of Hope by giving oversight to the Rural Initiatives Team and collaborating with other U.S.-based Convoy of Hope program initiatives to invest into rural churches in the U.S. with the intent to strengthen and train them in a local compassion expression.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Leads the Rural Initiatives Team of trainers and administrators with integrity and passion to invest and train rural churches and staff across the United States.
- In unity with the Senior VP of Community Engagement, represents and presents Convoy of Hope’s work in rural America in the form of thorough communication, reports, stories, and expenses.
- Oversees the Rural Initiatives program budget and expenditures of its team members and activities.
- Collaborates with other Convoy of Hope U.S.-based program areas, such as Field Teams, Disaster Services, Community Events, Load Distribution, Community Care, and Volunteer Crew.
- Develops and manages strategic organizational partnerships, donor and nondonor, to fulfill and expand Convoy of Hope’s influence and support in local churches across the United States.
- Fosters research on trends in rural America for the purpose of helping churches address real-time needs in their communities.
- Assists with curriculum development for all Rural Initiatives trainings to ensure a uniform message from the team and Convoy of Hope as an organization.
- Travels as needed to conduct quality control assessment of current trainings and to conduct trainings of one’s own church relationship base.
- Interacts with leaders from multiple fellowships, including but not limited to the Assemblies of God, Foursquare, Vineyard, Nazarene, Association of Related Churches, Open Bible, Baptist, Independent, and Church of God in Christ.
- Fulfills all other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Ordained, commissioned, or licensed minister with church ministry experience (required).
- A bachelor’s degree in a related field is preferred. A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
- Five or more years of ministry experience and prior compassion ministry experience are preferred.
- Demonstrates leadership and organizational skills at the level needed to effectively lead a team of diverse individuals.
- Possesses strong organizational skills for handling several projects at one time.
- Displays excellent verbal and written communication skills for adequately conveying the work of Convoy of Hope to outside constituencies.
- Exhibits ability to use PC and/or Mac software programs, including but not limited to Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.
- Demonstrates excellent interpersonal communication skills for dealing with teammates, pastors, volunteers, contractors, and disaster survivors.
- Attends and actively participates in Convoy of Hope At Home Week meetings and activities as a required responsibility to the organization and fellow team members.
- Serves as an advocate for the ministry, striving to nurture, broaden, and develop financial and other resource opportunities to support and expand organizational and program ministry.
- Positively represents the ministry of Convoy of Hope, including its mission statement and core values, to all outside constituencies.
- As a Christian organization, Convoy of Hope believes it is critical that team members embrace the organization’s religious purposes for which it exists and not only agree with its Statement of Faith but demonstrate it in their lives on an ongoing basis.
Supervisory Responsibilities
This position directly supervises Rural Initiatives team members, staff, and volunteers.
