Animal Caregiver (Full-Time)

Responsibilities:
- Provide daily care and maintenance for animals in our facility
- Feed, water, and clean animal enclosures on a regular schedule
- Monitor the health and behavior of animals and report any concerns to the supervisor
- Administer medications or treatments as directed by veterinary staff
- Assist with grooming and bathing animals as needed
- Handle animals safely and securely at all times - walking all of the dogs in our facility takes place at least twice every day
- Provide exercise and enrichment activities for animals to promote their well-being
- Maintain accurate records of animal care, including feeding schedules, medical treatments, and behavior observations

Experience:
- Previous experience working with animals in a professional setting is highly preferred
- Knowledge of pet grooming techniques and practices
- Ability to safely restrain animals during procedures or examinations
- Familiarity with positive dog training methods and techniques
- Basic understanding of veterinary terminology and procedures
- Strong animal handling skills, including the ability to recognize signs of stress or aggression, are a must
- Ability to perform heavy lifting (up to 50 pounds) as needed

This position requires a passion for animal care and the ability to work well in a team environment. There is a lot of cleaning involved with the shelter's daily schedule. The ideal candidate will have excellent attention to detail, strong communication skills, and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively. Animals rely solely on our care staff every day; attendance is of the utmost importance in this role.

With the shelter being a unique animal care environment that encompasses husbandry, medical care, and behavioral health of cats, dogs, and small animals, there are multiple opportunities for advancement and learning opportunities.

This position is 40 hours a week minimum, with a regular set schedule. Pay starts at 14.50hr with no professional animal care experience. Candidates with professional animal care experience will start at $16 hr, depending on experience. We offer 10 paid holidays a year, 2 weeks of vacation time, discounts on pet supplies, and health insurance. The opportunity to advance into an Adoption Counselor position is available to the right candidate.
