The chaplain plans, develops, and implements program policies to provide formal and informal religious services for patients, employees, and attending families. Often confers with administrative staff, department managers, and hospital personnel to determine needs for pastoral services and solicit participation in program objectives. The chaplain supervises volunteers who provide ancillary Chaplaincy services. Oversees the orientation of new volunteer chaplains on CMC’s pastoral care protocols. The chaplain reviews department performance in relation to established goals, effectiveness of services provided, and compliance with regulatory and legal requirements. Responsible for performing all job duties in accordance with mission, vision, and values of Conway Medical Center.
All organizational staff, including this position, are specifically required as a condition of continued employment to make advance preparations for their families and pets in the event of weather emergencies such as Hurricanes and flooding threats. Any staff member can be determined as essential staff required to report to the facility during these events. In many cases this means reporting and sleeping at the facility before, during and after a weather emergency. By signing this job description, the staff member accepts this responsibility of readiness to report to work during any designated emergency staffing situation. CMC staff members operate as one team meeting the healthcare needs of our communities, thus this position will on occasion complete other duties as assigned beyond those designated in this primary job description which may include “float” coverage at an alternate facility, department or assignment.
Qualifications
Education:
- Masters of Divinity or equivalency required.
- Minimum 2 Units of Certified Clinical Pastoral Education required through a nationally accredited body required.
Experience:
- Minimum two years of pastoral ministry, in a church or institution required.
- Three (3) years’ experience as a clinical chaplain preferred.
- Prior specific experience as a Chaplain working in the healthcare setting preferred.
Licensure/Certification/Registration:
- Ordination and Clinical Chaplaincy endorsement by the ordaining denomination required.

- Ability to relate well with other clergy, patients, physicians, hospital personnel and guests required.

- Ability to remain calm and professional in a variety of healthcare crisis situations required.
