Job Description Summary: “Maintenance Technician” is a full-time ministry role for an organized, efficient, Christian individual who is willing to work hard in a service capacity. Our Maintenance Technician serves the entire ministry by maintaining the facilities and responding to scheduled maintenance tickets as well as maintenance emergencies. The job involves a wide variety of tasks that could include, but is not limited to, the following: carpentry, plumbing, electrical, equipment operation (backhoe, dozer, tractor, etc.), preventive maintenance tasks, painting, window/screen repair, security system installation/maintenance, appliance repair, and other duties as assigned. The Maintenance Technician will work with all other staff members, so a team spirit is crucial for success.
Minimum Qualifications: The qualifications listed below are required in order for an applicant to be considered for the role of Maintenance Technician.
Education and /or Experience: High school diploma or general education degree (GED) with 1 years of related experience required, 2 years of college or technical training preferred.
Faith Beliefs: Demonstrate Christian faith and practice, agreeing with and abiding by the Cookson Hills Statement of Faith and Lifestyle Agreement provided on the employment application.
Computer Skills: Knowledge of Internet software, specifically the Google Apps suite including Docs, Sheets, and Calendar, etc. Ability to utilize email as a reliable form of communication. Additional knowledge of phone system software and/or security system software is preferred, but not required.
Driving Skills: Valid driver's license in good standing with willingness and ability to transport student workers and operate heavy machinery.
Residence: Must reside in on-campus housing in order to perform the essential duties of the role, with no more than 4 children living in the home; OR must live close enough to respond promptly to on-call, emergency situations.
Work Environment: The work environment is representative of what an employee typically encounters while performing the essential functions of this job; i.e. various locations for repairing and providing maintenance services (residential childcare homes, school building, outdoor settings, staff homes, office buildings, etc.).

Assigned Maintenance & Repairs: The Maintenance Tech carries out assigned repair/maintenance or preventive tasks in a manner that is consistent with ministry priorities and service delivery requirements. S/He must be able to prioritize work tasks and work with a high level of efficiency. Specific responsibilities may include:
- Troubleshooting and repairing appliances,
- Making repairs/maintaining electrical circuits, changing out breakers, switches and receptacles,
- Repairing sinks, toilets, water leaks, sewer stoppages, etc.,
- Checking, repairing, and/or installing security system or Audio/Visual components (motion sensors, video cameras, etc.),
- Assisting with new construction and remodel projects,
- Operating a backhoe and front-end loader to do new installations and/or repairs.
- The Maintenance Tech may also supervise and work alongside student workers and must be able to train, teach, and adequately supervise students.
Groundskeeping and Outdoor Work: The Maintenance Tech job involves a wide variety of tasks that could include, but are not limited to the following: bush hogging, mowing, trimming, landscaping, planting, tractor and mower repair (tractor, riding mower, push mower, weed eater, etc).
Preventative Maintenance: The Maintenance Tech performs preventative maintenance tasks such as filter replacements, flushing enzymes, HVAC system cleaning, etc.
Administrative Tasks: The Maintenance Tech must check email and assigned tickets regularly and adequately follow through on the following administrative tasks:
- Record Keeping,
- Ticket Management,
- Receipt tracking and documentation,
- Other tasks as needed.
