What are the responsibilities and job description for the Project Architect (K-12 Education) position at Cooper Carry?
The Project Architect strives for continuous improvement and innovation regarding design and management while maintaining high levels of expectations for project management and building performance. This person will work with other roles in the core discipline and the firm to promote a very high level of client satisfaction through exceptional project management. This role will collaborate with direct reports to meet their goals. It is essential that the individual possess excellent listening and people skills to foster cooperation with teams and meaningfully contribute to the high-level execution of projects. The individual will also have a passion for continuous improvement, a strong sense of accountability, and an ability to work with other roles in the firm to optimize the success of projects.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Architecture Design Development
- Have a vision and direction for design
- Ability to work across multiple platforms and understand a multi-disciplinary approach to design
- Embrace innovative ideas to ensure the best solutions result in beautiful, functional designs that add value for clients
- Drive continuous improvement, including design innovation and process efficiencies through direct reports
- Maintain a curious mind
- Be aware of cultural and market trends
- Maintain and evolve Cooper Carry's unique design process
- Evaluate the overall success of their project work
- Facilitate public and private meetings to build consensus and effectively solve project design issues
Architecture
- Ensure that ideas/stories for designs resonate with the culture and create alignment between project and market
- Be able to articulate the story/narrative to the team, the client, and any outside party in an enthusiastic and convincing way
- Define Architecture-specific roles, areas of focus or package deliverables within a project. Ability to direct drawings or use another medium effectively such that it can quickly and effectively convey a design idea/concept, including vision boards and presentations for the team and clients, including finish schedules, and Architecture tracking spreadsheets and submittals
- Responsible for the selection, detailing, assembling, and coordination of required materials that support the design goals and objectives including project specifications for color, finishes, and materials
- Help assist and coach a small team of designers on a project
- Participate in Quality Analysis and control reviews with particular emphasis towards constructability and value engineering
- Be aware of industry leading projects that are examples of effective solutions in the markets in which we participate
- Establish high-level trusting relationships with preferred clients, consultants, GC’s, fabricators, and suppliers
- Target Billable Hours: 85%
Architecture Finance / Risk Management
- Establish and oversee project budgets
- Participate in risk management on projects
- Provide timely and accurate analysis of budgets, financial reports, and financial trends in order to assist the firm
Architecture External Leadership
- Serve as a spokesperson and representative for Cooper Carry
- Ensure that Cooper Carry is consistently presented in a strong, positive image to relevant stakeholders
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Registered/Licensed Architect Preferred
- Graduate of an accredited architectural program with Bachelor’s or Master’s level degree
- 5 years’ industry experience
- Strong understanding of building systems and documentation
- Demonstrated ability to produce high quality, complete sets of drawings for complex projects
- Proficiency in software required to complete the project including experience with documenting projects in Revit. Additional experience with Sketchup preferred.
- Strong communication, coordination, and organization skills
- Strong presentation skills
- Demonstrated ability to lead a team of professionals and consultants to meet project objectives
- Competency in all aspects of design and documentation
- Demonstrated conceptual design skills
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
May directly supervise Architects and designers. Responsibilities directly involving subordinates include: training, planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; and aiding in problem resolution. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
Compensation range offered for this Job Posting: $85k - $115k annually.
