Job Overview:

Directs, manages and/or coordinates all activities associated with the health, safety, and environmental functions at the Bushy Park industrial site. Responds to any site incident, initiates investigations, and resolves general site issues. Enforces all safety, industrial hygiene, medical, security, environmental, and company policies and procedures. Enforces landlord standards and health, safety, environment, and quality (HSEQ) policy, and leads emergency response operations in the event of an incident.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Manages and advises environmental service providers on environmental activities and issues on the site.
  • Enforces HSEQ policy and serves on the ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 Management Review Teams.
  • Acts as the Incident Commander and coordinates site emergency response operations. Enforces Cooper River Partners (CRP) landlord standards.
  • Communicates with and visits certain CRP and tenant operating areas a minimum of once per shift to provide HSEQ oversight and reports results to area management.
  • Conducts compliance and safety audits and regular inspections of CRP operations such as confined space, lockout/tagout, respiratory protection, hazard communications, emergency plans, environmental permits, etc. Provides HSEQ training as needed.
  • Coordinates medical treatment and transport of all injuries or illnesses involving CRP tenants, third party companies, and contractor personnel on site.
  • Supports emergency preparedness by planning and conducting training and exercises on emergency procedures with shift emergency response teams and documents all training.
  • Investigates safety, health, environmental, security, or personnel concerns or incidents on the off shift and weekends and provides technical assistance.
  • Identifies hazards and potential risks and assists operations staff with eliminating or mitigating those hazards.
  • Engages with CRP staff, Bushy Park tenants, and community committees to resolve issues in a professional manner.
  • Promotes a safe work environment for co-workers and clients through a personal commitment to work safety.


Specific Skills:

  • Ability to implement the principles and practices of occupational safety and health including safety and environmental protection programs.
  • Knowledge and understanding of applicable OSHA standards.
  • Excellent organizational, time management, problem-solving, and written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Positive customer relations skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Word and Excel.


Minimum Education/Experience:

  • Associate degree and 2 years of leadership, management, and relevant work experience or High School Diploma or equivalent with 5 years of leadership and management, and relevant work experience is required.
  • Bachelor of science degree with 1 year of leadership, management, and relevant work experience with 2 years of OSHA safety program management or compliance, emergency response and incident command, chemical manufacturing or regulatory compliance experience is preferred.


Certifications & Licenses:

  • Valid driver's license
  • Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Certification or the ability to obtain within the first twelve months.

Physical Requirements:

Posses visual acuity to operate machines, such as lathes, drill presses, etc.; perform skilled trades tasks of non-repetitive nature; ability to stand, walk, talk, stoop, crouch, push, pull; and exert up to 50lbs of force occasionally and 20lbs frequently.

Working Conditions:

Subject to activities inside and outside; temperature levels below 32 degrees and above 100 degrees for more than one hour; noise levels where one may need to shout to be heard; hazards such as moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working in high places; exposure to chemicals, fumes, odors, oils, other cutting fluids, and infectious diseases; required to wear a respirator; and frequently in close quarters, small spaces, narrow aisles or passageways.

Job Type: Full-time

Shift Schedule: Seven 12-hour shifts from 6:00am to 6:00pm and/or 6:00pm to 6:00am over a two-week period, including nights, weekends, and holidays; rotating three 12-hour shifts one week and four 12-hour shifts the next and from time to time some additional work hours.
