Forensic Intervention Team Specialist

Rochester, NY On-Site
FULL-TIME Evenings [Exempt] : 40 hours per week
 

Coordinated Care Services Inc (CCSI) seeks a talented Forensic Intervention Team Specialist to contribute their expertise in providing essential business services to our provider organizations and customers. Monroe County Office of Mental Health (MCOMH) maintains strong, ongoing collaboration with the eleven county law enforcement agencies. In September 2017, MCOMH launched the Forensic Intervention Team (FIT), which partners clinicians with law enforcement during behavioral and mental health-related 911 calls. FIT provides de-escalation, clinical assessment, evaluation, diversion from hospitalization, and care coordination/referrals. The team collaborates with first responders, treatment providers, hospitals, and families to ensure all possible needs are met. FIT runs 24/7, with current openings on the evening shift for Sun-Thu, 2pm-10pm and Tues-Sat, 3pm-11pm.


CCSI is partnering with Monroe County Office of Mental Health to hire a Forensic Intervention Team Specialist. This position is employed by CCSI and working on behalf of Monroe County


In this role, you will

  

  • Respond to crisis and non-crisis calls with law enforcement upon dispatch from 911, or at the direct request of law enforcement.
  • When multiple calls occur simultaneously, triage calls to determine appropriate level of intervention, balancing needs among various law enforcement departments.
  • Perform clinical assessment and evaluation while on scene with individuals in crisis; gather an understanding of symptomatology and presentation in order to identify current needs and develop appropriate treatment plans.
  • Balance immediate needs with long-term goal to connect to ongoing supports, understanding that needs and timeline for transition vary among cases.
  • Develop strong relationships with Monroe County’s law enforcement agencies.
  • Build effective linkages and relationships with informal and community supports (child, adult, and family serving systems), as well as other formal supports.
  • Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with forensic entities (including courts and Monroe County Jail), as well as provider agencies. 
  • Support interdepartmental initiatives and planning functions within Monroe County Office of Mental Health. 
  • Provide program coverage, as necessary.
  • Support other Monroe County Office of Mental Health program needs as they arise.
  • Perform other duties as assigned. 

  

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES: To be successful in this position, you will need to be competent in:

  • Ability to assess clients and take appropriate action
  • DSM-V symptomatology and presentation for varying diagnoses in children and adults. FIT does not formally diagnose patients for billing purpose, but knowledge in this area is essential to treatment intervention and planning.

Requirements

Education and Experience

  • Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC), Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW), Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Psychoanalyst, or doctorate in psychology, as documented by valid licensure from NYS ED Office of Professions, or…
  • Master’s degree in Social Work or Mental Health/Human Services related field plus minimum 5 years’ experience in mental health crisis intervention or mental health crisis response setting, or…
  • Psychiatric Registered Nurse or RN in mental health environment, as documented by valid licensure from NYS ED Office of Professions
  • Preferred Experience:  direct behavioral health support or treatment in emergency/crisis; criminal justice/forensic; substance use disorders; developmental disabilities; and/or youth/family settings

Additional Requirements

  • Satisfactory completion of all required background screenings.
  • Regular access to NYS registered, insured, and inspected vehicle for business purposes.
  • Minimum $300,000 personal liability on auto insurance policy.
  • Employee paid parking, FSA parking benefits are available
  • Willing to carry police radio for communication and response during shift.

Staff working directly with protected health information /electronically stored protected health information, personally identifiable information, and other patient/consumer/customer data, will abide by the specific procedures and policies outlined by CCSI’s Code of Conduct and CCSI’s Privacy and Security Policies, New York State regulations and Federal regulations.
