Job Overview:
The Director / Vice President of Construction will lead all aspects of construction process, with a strong focus on value engineering, cost control, and execution excellence. This is a Denver-based, in-office position that requires extensive hands-on construction experience, deep knowledge of construction methodologies, and expertise in optimizing designs and processes to maximize quality and efficiency.
The ideal candidate will be responsible for overseeing project planning, budgeting, vendor selection and management, and execution while ensuring projects are delivered on time and within budget. This individual will also play a crucial role in sourcing, evaluating, and selecting key project partners, including design teams and general contractors.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership & Strategy:
- Provide strategic direction for construction projects, ensuring alignment with company goals and industry best practices.
Project & Team Selection:
- Identify and engage design teams, including sourcing proposals, evaluating qualifications, conducting interviews, and making recommendations.
- Identify and select general contractors, including soliciting proposals, reviewing qualifications, conducting interviews, and negotiating terms.
Value Engineering & Construction Oversight:
- Continuously analyze and optimize design and construction methodologies to enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and improve quality.
- Manage all phases of construction, including pre-construction planning, scheduling, budgeting, procurement, and execution.
Cost Control & Budgeting:
- Oversee project budgets, negotiate contracts, and ensure cost-effective solutions are implemented without compromising quality.
Project Execution & Risk Management:
- Ensure projects are completed on schedule, within budget, and meet quality standards by effectively managing subcontractors, vendors, and internal teams.
- Identify potential risks and develop mitigation strategies to prevent delays, cost overruns, and quality issues.
Stakeholder Collaboration & Regulatory Compliance:
- Work closely with architects, engineers, developers, and key stakeholders to align on project goals and design efficiencies.
- Ensure adherence to all safety regulations, building codes, and industry standards.
- Navigate entitlement processes and work with municipalities for permitting to facilitate project approvals and ensure regulatory compliance.
Team Development:
- Mentor and develop construction teams, fostering a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
- 15 years of progressive experience in construction management, with a strong background in value engineering and cost optimization.
- Experience with entitlements and municipal permitting processes.
- Proven track record of successfully managing multi-family, condominium, and hotel projects (hotel experience preferred).
- Strong negotiation skills with experience in contract management, procurement, and vendor relations.
- Exceptional leadership abilities with a demonstrated ability to manage and develop high-performing teams.
- Deep understanding of scheduling software (Primavera P6, MS Project), budgeting tools, and project management systems.
- Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills with a data-driven mindset.
- Strong understanding of safety regulations, environmental considerations, and legal compliance in construction.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience working with developers, general contractors, and subcontractors in a senior leadership role.
- Expertise in lean construction principles and process improvement methodologies.
- Familiarity with green building standards and sustainability initiatives.
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills with the ability to optimize project performance.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Salary Range: $120,000 - $180,000
