The Central Processing (CPD) Technician is responsible for the cleaning, assembly and sterilization of all surgical instruments, and endoscopy scopes. This role plays an essential part in providing infection prevention for our patients.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Demonstrates knowledge and appropriately performs handling and care of all instruments, trays, scopes and reusable sterile supplies.
- Responsible for proper cleaning and sterilization of all instruments, scopes and pans, appropriate assembly and storage of all instrument sets, and opening and closing duties.
- Responsible for knowledge and performing proper operations of all washers, Steris and Sterad units, ultrasonic cleaners and autoclaves.
- Maintains knowledge of instrument set pan components.
- Inspects and assembles surgical instruments.
- Removes damaged instrumentation or equipment from service and communicates with appropriate team members.
- May assist with transport of instruments/equipment to or from O.R., Endoscopy and Decontamination in timely manner assuring instruments/equipment are clean/sterile as required.
- Maintains current knowledge according of all CS/Instrument Room policies and procedures according to AAMI Standards.
- Ensures instruments/scopes loaned or borrowed are returned to proper facility or vendor in clean and/or sterile condition.
- Assist with inventory control, next-day preparation, instrument counts and stocking of supplies for Surgery Center.
- Adheres and assist development of policies and procedures.
- Attends and participates in continuing education programs, communication groups and staff meetings.
- Complies with cost containment practices. Participates in quality assurance monitoring.
- Maintains confidentiality of patient information including HIPAA guidelines.
- Observes all safety precautions and participates in processes meeting or exceeding regulatory and accreditation guidelines. Complies with health and safety rules and procedures at the Center.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
