The Physician Medical Director reports directly to the CEO and collaborates with the Director of Medical Services, providing direct patient care, oversight of APP and CHA providers, and leadership to the clinical team.Key Responsibilities:
- Provides direct medical care to all age groups in accordance with the State of Alaska Department of Licensing and professional scope of practice.
- Develops personalized treatment plans based on patient needs, medical history, and evidence-based guidelines.
- Coordinates with receiving physicians, hospitals, hospital transfer centers, ambulance, and medevac agencies for patients requiring transfer to a higher level of care.
- Maintains productivity requirements of the health center with accurate and timely documentation in the patient's EHR.
- Collaborates with other departments and providers at CRNA to ensure patient-driven, coordinated, and comprehensive care.
- Assists Medical Services Director in oversight and support of the CHA Director and CHA village clinic operations, consults with village Health Aids on patient care.
- Approves and signs off on standing orders for nursing staff and village Health Aids.
- Participates in peer review programs; performs quarterly chart reviews and risk management activities.
- Stays informed of changes to evidenced-based practices and works with clinical leadership to disseminate and develop best practice protocols.
- Collaborates with CQI Manager in the design, implementation, monitoring, and reporting of quality initiatives that improve health outcomes.
- Assists in developing APP clinical orientation, staff in-services, and collaborative agreements for physician assistants as necessary.
- Participates in and provides clinical perspective to strategic and annual planning.
- Collaborates with operational leadership to develop policies and procedures, set provider performance goals, and participate in budget planning.
- Makes recommendations for medical activities, including plans and projections for staff support and equipment as appropriate.
- Promotes a motivational culture for providers and CRNA staff to work as a cohesive and mutually supportive group.
- Responsible for the completion of annual performance reviews for select employees.
- May attend statewide Medical Director's Meetings and other relevant meetings.
- Prepares and delivers reports as appropriate.
- Provides clinical input in response to patient complaints and Medical Incident/Case Reviews.
- Participates in recruiting and selecting permanent and locums' medical staff.
