What are the responsibilities and job description for the Intern - Financial Reporting/Accounting, Investor Relations & Governance + Compliance position at COPT?
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Financial Reporting/Accounting, Investor Relations, & Governance Compliance Intern will support the following teams with investor relations, finance, and audit related tasks.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Financial Reporting/Accounting:
- Support the accounting and SEC reporting for areas that may include interest rate derivatives, debt, joint ventures and other investments.
- Perform activities to support external and internal audit requirements, including schedule preparation and workflow management.
- Assist with the compilation of reporting packages to joint venture partners and lenders.
Investor Relations:
- Primary Responsibility – complete an assigned project and present findings to senior management.
- Secondary Responsibility - Assist the Investor Relations team with the following -
- Stakeholder Relationships
- Manage relationships with Analysts and Investors.
- Internal Communications
- Generate value added information for senior management.
- External Communications
- Communicate the company’s financial story to the investor community.
- Stakeholder Relationships
Governance & Compliance:
- Assist Governance & Compliance team with performing SOX procedures:
- Issue, track and manage SOX document request's.
- Attend walkthrough and report testing meetings & assist in documentation.
- Assist with the execution of business process and IT control testing.
- Assist Governance & Compliance team with other internal audit procedures:
- Monitoring of requested documentation from corporate/field resources.
- Document audit procedures in accordance with respective work program.
- Assist in summarizing audit findings & communication.
- Assist with Policies & Procedures oversight:
- Aid department in reviewing COPT’s internal policies site.
- Identify policy improvement opportunities.
- Communicate with policy owners to request input on policies.
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Rising junior or senior who is majoring in Accounting or Finance preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel and Outlook) and ability to learn company specific software.
- Strong analytical, technical, interpersonal and communication skills required.
