The EHS Advisor is responsible for ensuring compliance with environmental, health, and safety regulations within the workplace. This role involves identifying risks, implementing safety programs, conducting training, and promoting a culture of safety and environmental responsibility. The EHS Advisor will work closely with management and employees to ensure a safe and sustainable work environment.
1. Health & Safety Compliance
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal health and safety regulations. Serve as primary site liaison between facility and regulatory agencies.
- Conduct regular site inspections, audits, and risk assessments.
- Investigate workplace incidents, accidents, and near misses, and recommend corrective actions.
- Develop, implement, and maintain EHS processes, safety policies, procedures, and best practices.
- Coordinate emergency response plans and drills.
2. Environmental Management
- Monitor environmental compliance related to waste management, emissions, and sustainability initiatives.
- Ensure proper disposal of hazardous and non-hazardous waste.
- Assist in implementing environmental programs to reduce the company’s carbon footprint.
3. Training & Employee Engagement
- Develop and deliver EHS training sessions for employees and management.
- Promote a positive safety culture through awareness programs and initiatives.
- Assemble an ERT (Emergency Response Team) and train to respond to EHS situations. Hold frequent meetings to assess site’s situational readiness.
- Conduct toolbox talks and safety briefings.
4. Reporting & Documentation
- Maintain and update EHS records, reports, and documentation.
- Prepare reports for internal and external stakeholders on EHS performance.
- Ensure proper documentation of safety incidents and regulatory compliance activities.
- Collaborate with Human Resources (as needed) for any EHS related situations.
5. Continuous Improvement
- Stay updated on industry best practices, emerging trends, and regulatory changes.
- Recommend and implement process improvements to enhance workplace safety.
- Participate in EHS committee meetings and contribute to strategic safety initiatives.
- Responsible for communicating business related issues or opportunities to next management level
- Responsible for ensuring personal and Company compliance with all Federal, State, local, and Company regulations, policies, and procedures
- Responsible for ensuring compliance with Quality Procedures, Laws, and Regulations of the applicable markets
- Performs other duties assigned as needed
- B.S. degree in technical discipline (occupational safety, industrial hygiene, environmental science, or engineering or equivalent).
- 2 years of experience implementing EH&S programs and processes in a complex manufacturing and/or distribution setting.
- Must have strong substantive knowledge of regulations and guidance promulgated by Federal and State OSHA and EPA, as well as workers’ compensation requirements.
- Relevant EHS certifications (e.g., NEBOSH, OSHA, ISO 45001, ISO 14001) are highly desirable.
- Familiarity with, understanding of, and experience in EH&S Management Systems and their successful implementation.
- Experience developing and implementing an effective ergonomics program.
- Experience with risk assessments, incident investigations, and safety audits.
- Must have strong leadership skills and be results driven.
- Must be self-directed and able to work independently.
- Must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Must have demonstrated ability to lead and/or influence cross-functional teams and all levels of facility personnel.
- Must have strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
