The Cordova Recreation & Park District (CRPD) is seeking a part-time Clerical II - Human Resources and Payroll assistant to join the Human Resources division. We are a small, supportive team that strives to provide the best internal customer service possible for the staff that selflessly serves the community. 

Typical schedule: This is a part-time onsite position with a typical schedule of Monday through Thursday, up to seven hours a day. Work is to be performed between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m., not to exceed 28 hours a week.

Our ideal candidate has excellent communication and organizational skills along with the ability to build and maintain positive working relationships with staff. Strong computer skills and some payroll and Human Resources knowledge is preferred. The ability to exercise discretion and maintain confidentiality is essential to performing the tasks of the job.

Summary Description
Under general supervision of Human Resources supervisory or management staff, provides a variety of office support, and clerical and administrative duties and activities in support of assigned department or function; receives, routes, and distributes incoming and outgoing correspondence; performs sorting, filing, copying, payroll and accounting services; and maintains a variety of files and records.

We provide quality recreational programs, parks and services for our diverse and growing region. We currently operate over 50 parks and facilities across more than 600 acres of urban and open space. We also operate Cordova Golf Course which is a full-service 18-Hole course with a lighted driving range, pro-shop and lessons from PGA professionals. We host dozens of events throughout the year and provide athletic, educational and creative outlets for children and adults of all ages.

The following duties are typical for this classification. Incumbents may not perform all of the listed duties and/or may be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices.
  • Conducts data entry to prepare reports, records, and reconciliation of payroll records using Microsoft Excel.
  • Assists with the review and reconciliation of attendance records and payroll.
  • Prepares and maintains official personnel files.
  • Sorts and distributes payroll checks. 
  • Assists with new hire paperwork and tracking completion of forms. 
  • Assists with the recruitment process including scheduling and preparing materials and meeting room for interviews.
  • Use a computer to create and update a variety of documents, spreadsheets, and forms. 
  • Assist internal and external customers by responding to requests for information. 
  • Perform a variety of recordkeeping duties including sorting, filing, and archiving in compliance with records retention program. 
  • Operate various office machines including computer, printer, scanner, copier, and telephone.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

Knowledge of:
  • Professional office etiquette with excellent grammar, spelling, and writing skills.
  • Customer service techniques, practices, and principles.
  • Methods and techniques of proper phone etiquette.
  • Office procedures, methods, and equipment including computers and applicable software applications such as word processing, spreadsheets, email, and databases. 
  • Principles and procedures of record keeping and filing.
  • Basic mathematical principles.
Ability to:
  • Maintain confidentiality, including securing, maintaining, purging, and shredding electronic and paper files and documents in accordance with District policies. 
  • Interpret and apply District policies and procedures. 
  • Perform general clerical work, including maintaining files and compiling information for reports.
  • Type and enter data into the computer at a speed necessary for successful job performance.
  • Respond tactfully, clearly, concisely, and appropriately to inquiries related to area of responsibility.
  • Operate office equipment including computers and supporting word processing, spreadsheet, and email applications.
  • Maintain confidentiality, including securing, maintaining, purging, and shredding electronic and paper files and documents in accordance with District policies.
  • Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Maintain attention to detail by prioritizing work and coordinating several activities simultaneously despite interruptions.
  • Maintain integrity of work by taking responsibility and accountability for completion of work and internal customer interactions and maintaining punctuality and attendance at work.
  • Contribute to a team effort.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
Education and Experience Guidelines - Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade and two years of clerical experience. Payroll and Human Resources experience is desirable.

Additional Requirements:
Department of Justice (DOJ) background check.
